Elements represented: air (messenger bird), life (plant roots), stone (the stone and the bright lines in it showing the magic lifting it), fire (Dainix).
Elements not represented: lightning and void.
I forgot water. I guess either Red isn’t counting Void as an element in that sense (I guess if she were you’d probably also have to count soul, which is arguably present in the page), or possibly the sludge has something to do with the void, as the two elements not represented would be lightning and water.
Hey Void could be represented digging out the earth. Jeff (ooze monster) show fluidness but not wetness so much and does not show other watery elements. I’ld toss my hat at your second observation as being correct!
Void is definitely not an element, because we know there were 6 primordials and the dragon doesnt really count as one of those 6. Yes you could say it’s “a primordial” but not in the same way that they were. Its soul has no aurora, and its body does not make up the world
I interpreted the sludge as void (I have some guesses about what that really is), but the unrepresented elements should be water and lightning. Either I’m right about the sludge, or Red doesn’t consider that an element
Red has had so many good ones so far I am looking forward to many more in the future. as long as she is able to do so! (with in reason and artist temperament)
The messenger flies past plant-torn rocks,
Down through the earth it dives,
Towards Dainix, half-buring, spear poised,
With Erin in a fight for their lives.
Red, your no-dialogue pages are the best in the business.
(Reads alt text) Yeah, but lightning will be here shortly. It’s water that keeps getting the short end of the stick; maybe when the gang is crossing the ocean we’ll see more of it.
Beautiful showing of the different artstyles of stone and life in the first two panels. Stone with it’s very structured and parallel lines, not all straight but all purposeful (almost gives me FMA vibes with the transmutation lines). Life twisting and branching out, no sharp angles or straight lines and getting thinner as it goes along.
But the second panel does show them working together; the stone lines are following with or along the life roots. Erin and Alinua’s unearthing is working well; they just need a bit more time.
Dainix looks to be keeping it under control, and the slime is avoiding his attacks, but his worried expression doesn’t make me confident in how long he can keep this up. With him and Falst emotionally and physically exhausted, Erin and Alinua probably magically exhausted after the digging, they’re going to need Tess and Kendal for backup against the monster whether they like it or not.
Well dang, those semi–separate panels really are something else. Another great example I remember is on https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-7-22/, showing Erin fighting for control surreptitiously. But it’s also REALLY great at showing certain motions, like on this page! I’m wondering how I could implement something like that in my own occasional comic escapades, considering I haven’t really been… using traditional panel borders at all. Maybe subtly slicing the scene with the background colour? …but not too subtle, of course.
Anonymous Aurora Question #probably 7?:
If you could choose to be a mage, what element would be yours? Follow up question: How do you utilize your element to run/hide from the starfish police?
I’ll have to go with water. We haven’t seen much water magic in effect yet, but I think I could use it to erode the ground from beneath the starfish police. Then they’ll have to crawl through mud instead, while possibly fighting off the zombie skeleton starfish, so they’ll never catch me.
As for why they’re attacking, if I remember correctly Question Master stole some money from a starfish, then murdered it. It ended up becoming a zombie which regenerated as more zombies, which led to the whole Zombie Skeleton Starfish war. So the starfish police originally hunted Question Master for theft and murder, but now they might be charged with crimes against starfishdom.
Did my comment post? I’m afraid my comment didn’t post. Anyway: Anonymous Aurora Question #8: What kind of mage would you most like to be and how would you use your powers against the starfish polices attack? By the way, why are they even attacking in the first place? I kind of forgot, sorry. 🙂
I’ve always wanted lightning powers, so probably that -in that scenario I’d use it to stun/paralyze the police before running away. Not sure why the police would come after me but it probably wouldn’t be justified; let’s just assume I had to visit Zuurith for some reason and they took issue with something I did.
I just thought about the problems Question Master is having/has had with various zombie or not zombie starfish and it was still on my mind, I don’t think the normal police would have issues with that 🙂 .
I love the visual distinction between Alinua’s curvy green roots and Erin’s earth moving energy with its straight runs, right angles, and spikey joins.
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: only two elements are going unrepresented on this page! new record!

is Sludge an element?
Could be void.

water is not here
No Patrick. Sludge is not an element.
Neither is Mayonnaise.
Falst is gonna get booped.
Also, that first panel is dope as hell.
oh WOAH this is SO PRETTY
Aurora Question #86: ooo pretty, what’s been the best page in appearance so far in your opinion?
We finally found you
Oh no you don’t! If you want to take our friend away, you’ll have to go through me first!
If they try to attack a member of the comment team, they are attacking all of us!
ohno
It would probably be 1.18.13 https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-18-13/
It would probably be this: https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-18-13/
Huh. Next time around I’ll trust that it posts.
I think that was the first Aurora panel I used as a screensaver!
Red has had so many good ones so far I am looking forward to many more in the future. as long as she is able to do so! (with in reason and artist temperament)
0.1.2
It’s an absolutely beautiful and stunning piece of visual story telling. 🙂
yeah, I don’t gush about the art but I did find that 1st panel striking, grabbed me;
The messenger flies past plant-torn rocks,
Down through the earth it dives,
Towards Dainix, half-buring, spear poised,
With Erin in a fight for their lives.
Red, your no-dialogue pages are the best in the business.
With Falst I mean with Falst!
I feel your pain as you re-read what you can not take back to fix. Sympathies @GoodbyeBallad!
Oooh, pretty colours!
And for once I’m so early that the rest of the comments section hasn’t loaded

A visual page with flashing lights
The bird, the stone, the brutal fights
Ooh, I like that one

The sparkles are so pretty
God Dainix’s pose in that pose is such a power pose
Okay so I did not mean to say pose 3 times in 1 sentence… I meant to say “his pose in that PANEL” blah blah
*panel. You know what I mean
I think Deadpool would be applauding that superhero landing of Danix’s.
WOW THIS IS SO COOL, FIREFLOOF FIGHT FIREFLOOF FIGHT

I didn’t know Starfish had warcrimes okay?

I’d probably be a Stone mage, it would make it easy to hide from the starfish police or attack or rip away the ground beneath them.
Oh thank god, they arrived.
This is the part of a movie where fast-paced action music would be playing.
Well… technically three elements.
Maybe four.
its so pretty
Great. Erin’s going to unleash another threat onto the world.
TL;DR: Into the abyss!
This is a *solid* looking page.
I love the visual distinction between Alinua’s curvy green roots and Erin’s earth moving energy with its straight runs, right angles, and spikey joins.
Okay now you’re just showing off, Red 😛
i love the gesture on that last panel so so so so so much
Umm… I’m pretty sure the elemental plinth had all of them on the same panel. All actively doing stuff, even if that was mostly making a mess.
