So, as established, this bunker’s systems see Falst as an ancient, possibly even as a child, someone to protect.
Dainix, meanwhile, is a threatening, armed cave person to it.
…so this security system meant to keep cave people out is fooled by a cave person hauling an unconscious ancient around? Ye okay GREÆAT job programmers, THAT doesn’t encourage very bad, no good things at all!
Sign above the stairs they came through: “EXIT TO SHELTER” (the ‘sh’ is its own letter).
Door opposite the stairs: “AUTOMATON DEVELOPMENT”.
Sealed door that Dainix picks: “LACRIMA LABORATORY Y”.
Ancient PA says “WELCOME”, again.
What do you think they prey animal of this environment is? Because the cave people and the spider are both predators(which one would you call the apex?) This environment seems to support enough flora to have a herbivore or two skittering around, unless those are wires instead of vines.
The cave crawlers are apparently corrupted by the seventh element, for all we know they don’t even need to ‘eat’ in the ordinary sense any more, so they might be the prey of the spider, and sometimes vise-versa.
Given what we know about the seventh element and the cave crawlers, they seem to be constantly starving, but eating doesn’t really do anything to help them – kind of like Tantalus. At the same time, they don’t seem to die from their starvation – just eternal hunger, with no reprieve. Pretty nasty.
Ooh! Underground facility! How many pages until Dainix and Falst enter Aperture Science?
I’ve been thinkin’ about this for a while, and here it is:
For some reason, the Metal Gear Rising soundtrack fits really well with Aurora. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iz2sfBKVwI)
Kendal: The Only Thing I Know For Real (guy with sword and self-doubt)
Alinua: Rules Of Nature
Erin and Tess: i don’t have a good match for either :/
Falst: I’m My Own Master Now (edgy nonhuman angst)
Dainix: The Hot Wind Blowing
Tynan fight: The Stains Of Time
Jolon fight: Red Sun (yeah it’s the moon but whatever)
And just for fun:
If Zuurith had a fight: Collective Consciousness (MAKING WHOLE THE FABRIC OF SOCIETYYYYYY)
Now I have some Aftermath (Roleplaying game) running around my underground horror trope, ‘SHFF’? isn’t that an Original Star Trek sound? I feel dizzy from past memories running in my head. Or am I just a Ditz? (silly person) (Takes a slug of water to sober up.)
That moment where you have to go against your heavily ingrained hazard safety training in order to maybe survive, because there’s a good chance you’re going from the second worst case scenario to the absolute worst case scenario.
Okay, so if that door leads to a “LACRIMA LABORATORY” (thank you, Matt & Zer0 W0lf), then they’re definitely about to find a Life Lacrima, right? Cos Falst really needs some magic-grade healing right now.
Dainix: What’s this?! A locked door?! IMPOSSIBLE!- wait, no, it’s totally possible. What am I talking about?
Desperate times call for desperate measures; Dainix needs a light source no matter how risky it may be. Still, he’s keeping it small and not using soulfire to make it. Who knows? They may even find a lacrima for light in that laboratory they’re entering.
If where they just were was a shelter, as Mat translated, then they should be going in the right direction for getting out. Maybe not inside there, as it’s likely a closed off room, but they’re certainly on the right track to meet Erin and Alinua in the middle.
Anyone else getting Resident Evil with better writing vibes now? Deviously clever cannibal monsters… underground research facility… Something Went Wrong and all personnel are transformed into aforementioned deviously clever cannibal monsters?
To add another point of view: It’s not a fight waiting to happen- it’s art expressed creatively by Red. (Put fist to chest respectfully to @Marlowe and all other readers visiting this forum page and a respectful nod to @Alleyyy)
In panel three we see what look like electrical wires hanging from holes in the ceiling. Did the Ancients have electricity or are they something else? Very long, very flexible lacrima chargers?
I love how the “Automaton Development” door is smashed open heheheheh–
I mean hey, at least now we probably know where those bee-wasp-octopus monstrosity droids came from *shrugs*

I love the little detail that Dainix can just. Hold fire. Without getting burned.
I wonder how many of those lacrimas in the lab will still be charged with energy; does lacrima charge decay over time? Or will we see a rainbow of stones in there?
Assuming the charge hasn’t leaked out or been replaced by stone and/or void energy through sheer osmosis (because they’re underground with an implied entrance to the Singing Caves nearby), I’d say the chances are decent. My money persoanlly is on them finding Life lacrimas, because the two healers (Alinua and Erin) won’t arrive for a while and they really need to patch themselves up.
That would also let Falst’s significant-for-a-mundane magitech skills come in to play. I concur that it’s fairly likely, but don’t think it’s remotely certain.
Who else thinks that there are going to be monsters on the other sid, so Falst and Dainix almost die, but Alinua and Erin save them just in time, oh and also, Kendal wakes up while they’re still underground. Or is it just me?
Panel 4 makes me realize that Dainix probably hasn’t been able to trim his bangs for an entire year. Very stylish, but probably not what a warrior like him is comfortable with, if it hampers his vision
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: if you don’t have your own darkvision storebought is fine
“please don’t explode” is a very fun thing to mutter under one’s breath
also I love how he’s hacking the panel using Falst’s hand
I raise to you, “please explode”.
Dainix: *slaps shiny thing with falst’s hand*
Dainix: *hacker voice* I’m in
Dainix: *slaps glowy panel with falst’s hand*
Dainix: *Hacker voice* I’m in
Holy Batman! I’m reading an echo!

Simpler mechanisms last longer.
How would they plan for that?
I’m not going to blame them much for being unprepared to orevent cave man hackers.
Is this some safety? We hope so
Sneaking around tunnels they don’t know
Okay, Ancient writing. Here goes:
Sign above the stairs they came through: “EXIT TO SHELTER” (the ‘sh’ is its own letter).
Door opposite the stairs: “AUTOMATON DEVELOPMENT”.
Sealed door that Dainix picks: “LACRIMA LABORATORY Y”.
Ancient PA says “WELCOME”, again.
Correction: It says “Lacrima Laboratory Z”. Thanks, Quark.
Sign left of the stairs.

I thank all three of you for sharing your your insight with us! (smile)
Lacrima laboratory? That might be at odds with Dainix’s desire not to make explosions ?
What do you think they prey animal of this environment is? Because the cave people and the spider are both predators(which one would you call the apex?) This environment seems to support enough flora to have a herbivore or two skittering around, unless those are wires instead of vines.
Replying to Moss:

oh that’s gonna be fun to translate

I woke up really early today, and had to wait for so long to read this.
Which is weird, because I stayed up pretty late writing last night.
“No monsters on the other side”
You *hope*. What if there is another door and that one isn’t sealed, hmm?
Now I have some Aftermath (Roleplaying game) running around my underground horror trope, ‘SHFF’? isn’t that an Original Star Trek sound? I feel dizzy from past memories running in my head. Or am I just a Ditz? (silly person) (Takes a slug of water to sober up.)

No monsters on the other side? Have you never played Doom before? There’s a whole horde of monsters on the other side of that sealed door!
Okay, so if that door leads to a “LACRIMA LABORATORY” (thank you, Matt & Zer0 W0lf), then they’re definitely about to find a Life Lacrima, right? Cos Falst really needs some magic-grade healing right now.
Good point! Also, since all ancients were magically inert, any lacrimas of their design would be passively self-charging and therefore still full!

Ohh my goodness the lighting and paneling in this page– guys I gotta say it, I think this might just be my new favorite page.
Anyone else getting Resident Evil with better writing vibes now? Deviously clever cannibal monsters… underground research facility… Something Went Wrong and all personnel are transformed into aforementioned deviously clever cannibal monsters?
Red’s love of apocalypse logs preparing to duke it out with Red’s love of communicating entirely in runes, I see
To add another point of view: It’s not a fight waiting to happen- it’s art expressed creatively by Red. (Put fist to chest respectfully to @Marlowe and all other readers visiting this forum page and a respectful nod to @Alleyyy)
There once was an Ancient hall
Where he thinks he made the right call
To open the door
And hopes no more
Danger will now befall.
In panel three we see what look like electrical wires hanging from holes in the ceiling. Did the Ancients have electricity or are they something else? Very long, very flexible lacrima chargers?
Great. Now my worry filled brain is thinking that this door leads to a room where the monsters were trapped.
I love how the “Automaton Development” door is smashed open heheheheh–

Falst is just out, which is not great. Poor dude’s probably having tormented backstory dreams as we speak! We’re not even getting to see them!
I love the little detail that Dainix can just. Hold fire. Without getting burned.

Really random but the face that Danix makes in panel 4 is one he makes a lot and absolutely love it
Dainix hon I admire the optimism but that’s a very bold assumption to make
Who else thinks that there are going to be monsters on the other sid, so Falst and Dainix almost die, but Alinua and Erin save them just in time, oh and also, Kendal wakes up while they’re still underground. Or is it just me?

TL;DR: Cheapest (and riskiest) portable flashlight ever.
Sealed door in a facility with guard robots? Dainix, that means they’re keeping the experimental monsters INSIDE there.
Do you suppose the word “nightvision” doesn’t exist in this world thanks to its titular auroras? And the two moons, I suppose. That probably helps.
The alt-text does use the term “darkvision.” Nice touch, Red.
