Ah, I see they’re getting along like a hero and their talking weapon! Never trust talking weapons. Or dark, suspicious swirls of evil darkness. (Except maybe if you’re Victor from Suikoden II but that’s beside the point).
Me, pulling up comic aurora on my laptop after counting the days: Oooh boy, I just can’t wait to be emotionally scarred!
(Also, gotta love how quickly whatever you wanna call this relationship between Erin and his primordial passenger has devolved into “telling eldritch horror to go F themselves” which is just peak character work honestly alongside something I keep going absolutely nuts for)
Aurora Question #45.5: Should I make 6 questions to catch up on the missed time?
Aurora Question #46: The answer is yes. Anyways, what do you guys think that funny glowing gem in the center of the campsite is?
Aurora Question #47: Who has the weirdest dreams?
Aurora Question #48: In the first panel, Erin has what I think is the Life Lacrima from way back in Chapter 8-9 (not sure which). Can someone who isn’t on mobile confirm this?
Aurora Question #49: What has been the best Arc so far?
Aurora Question #50: Who is your favorite Character?
Aurora Question #51: What trope do you hope to see in Aurora, and in what form?
Welcome back from the break Red. Hope it went well!
#46: fire lacrima. it looks so yummy like a large cough drop
#47: toughie but erin’s dreams have the potential to be weirdest because his headspace is being occupied by a primordial with an appetite for stars that can give him intrusive thoughts at will
#48: doubtful? not a green pixel in sight
#49: zuurith arc had the most arc and we met new people, but forest arc’s inhuman angst TM parallels stuff was pretty sweet
#50: i’m not answering this question because it will make me feel sad for the other characters
#51: i would have said bottle episode, but falst & dainix are enduring that right now so i really hope the gang gets some semblance of downtime in which they don’t have to do hero stuff and their lives aren’t in immediate danger. probably an atypical situation like running errands or a social situation or like a holiday(which would be nice). we got a bit of downtime with falst and alinua in the zuurith market but i think the whole gang deserves a rest
I’ma answer the last three questions because that’s the stuff I love to talk about
#49 Erin’s entrance because Windcrest and cloudchildren and monologues and Tess randomly being in the background
#50 Fave character is my boi Trusk. I hope I get to see more of him and Shrike later because their dynamic is the best.
#51 I am a simple woman with simple needs.
A Crouching Moron Hidden Badass is the trope I want.
#49 I’m really loving the dungeon fun time that we’re getting with Falst and Dainix right now. Character development/reveals for both of them, and it’s serious but also has some really fun moments.
#50 Dainix. I’ve loved him since we first saw him in the gladiator panel when I could tell he was a good person just by how he fought. Warrior with brain cells will always be a favorite of mine.
#51 Like Sig, I think we really need some downtime and some goofing around. It’s been a rough 48+ hours.
47: Alinua, hands down.
48: That’s no lacrima, that’s Erin’s bag of holding.
49: You expect me to choose a favorite arc out of a story that has been amazing from the start?
50: They’re all my favorites for different reasons. Kendal is just so unequivocally sweet and kind, and I like his whole “learning to live as a mortal” progression going on. Alinua has really grown on me (pun intended); her existential crises and learning to live with a non-hostile primordial in her mind are interesting, and her interventions in Zuurith showed a strong moral compass that I agree with. Erin is fascinating to analyze; a prodigal genius and powerful mage who, despite all his posturing, is steeped in self-loathing and inferiority complexes, and his murky backstory is a good one to theorize about. Falst, while being a typical angry loner in some cases, is also a breath of fresh air from other angry loners in that, instead of trying repeatedly to split from the group, found a couple of people inside the group that he will protect at all costs; additionally, his backstory is also fun to theorize about. Tess provides a sense of levity and emotional intelligence that I think is very needed in a group otherwise filled with self-sacrificial trauma cans– not to say that Tess hasn’t experienced trauma, but that she’s learned how to deal with hers healthily; plus, she’s very wise thanks to her nomadicism giving her a myriad of varied perspectives on the world, and she, like Kendal, is really sweet and kind. Dainix is also emotionally intelligent… when it comes to anyone but himself, leading to a neat dynamic where he can hone his insight to pick apart someone’s barriers and reveal their insecurities, but is absolutely inscrutable to himself; basically, he falls apart (literally) when he’s on his own, but works much better in a group, and is probably the only one here besides Kendal who is more used to groups than to isolation.
51: More voluntary shapeshifting, especially from mortals; or perhaps non-humanoid people in general (including the primordial dragons; it always delights me when one starts speaking, even though I’m rooting against Void).
#46: Pretty sure it’s a fire lacrima.
#47: Yeah, probably Alinua. Not much competition.
#48: I think that’s just his bag. It’s kinda teal.
#49: If I had to pick, crime trio? They’re all great though.
#50: Tess. TESS. I love her so much.
#51: I think some time for Tess and Dainix to properly meet the other half of the team would be nice, probably once everyone’s back together and awake.
ok folks you think that erin’s going to try to handle the dragon itself or wake up alinua and/or kendal frmo their sleep? (i think tess is going to stage an intervention. success varies)
Erin: Tess, no, it’s too dangerous!
Tess: IT’S OKAY ERIN I’M USED TO PUNCHING DRAGONS
Erin: You do realise you’re punching me as well?
Tess: DGDSYSLSYLSYGKSSLOYOYW (dragon punching noises)
Erin: Really? I just changed this shirt; I am not having it consumed.
We’re back baby and it’s time for a change of scene and angst. Well, I say angst, Erin looks more tired and annoyed right now, which I take as a good sign that he’s in control. At least enough in control to pull another self-taser move if V.D. gets out of hand.
I guess I understand V.D. trying to take control right now, with the three ones who can take him out of commission and Erin probably exhausted. But I get the feeling he doesn’t expect to succeed here, and is mostly trying to rile Erin up.
Nice framing here with Kendal and Erin’s back in the light and Erin’s front, where the V.D. tattoo is, in the dark. The first panel also helps bring attention to Kendal; if I had to guess what could happen, he may wake up soon, if only to give his thoughts on V.D.’s criticism of Erin.
Oh boy! Happy Birthday to me! The update!! And we’ve got Erin possibly being possessed by Voidy again? Or is it just a talk? I don’t think a talk requires standing.
Holy fuck, how many people’s birthday is it? Mine is tomorrow (heck I’m officially grown up, at least by my country’s standards). Happy birthday to all of you!!!

OH MY GOD, OH MY GOD YOU GUYS
ALL THIS WEEK I’VE HAD BUTTERFLIES
EVERY TIME I’VE COME BACK HERE I COUNT THE DAYS TIL COMIC TIME
Omigod you guys!!!
SO LET’S ALL READ THIS FAIRYTALE
IT’S BEEN TWO WEEKS, BUT WE’VE PREVAILED
I’VE WAITED LIKE FOREVER THIS IS A PERFECT TIME TO DRAMATISE
OH MY GOD YOU GUYS!!!
Yay! Welcome back Red! I hope you are feeling refreshed & recharged. Your artwork is gorgeous & I love Erin SO much! …to be honest, I love the work you put into ALL of your characters, even the villains, but there is something about Erin that transcends his personality flaws and makes him extra-special.
Kendal is my favorite, by just a smidge, but the Erin/Voidy combination makes them a close 2nd. The Kendal – Alinua – Erin dynamic just makes my heart sing whenever they interact and I am so very happy that you are there to give them the loving torment they flourish in.
As per my hypothesis for this chapter, I think “your own poor planning” refers to Erin unknowingly taking the group close to The Singing Caves, thanks to the entrance protected by the bunker that he doesn’t know exists. I hope Erin’s academic experience has prepared him for an all-nighter…
@AspiringWriter you were right!! We’re going to get some Erin-Voidy chat time– how did you predict it so accurately? give me your secrets
And happy belated birthday to @bookfae and @DionysianDaughter, and happy early birthday to @Testing-the-Waters!
Prediction time >:) (also that void magic is drawn in a way that’s so fun to look at, I love the slightly transparent look!)
a) casual chats with eldritch abyss things
b ) existential crises, plural
c ) need I really elaborate
Because of my last successful prediction, I would like to post a more precise prediction. I think that Erin/V.D. will go into the Hole with Dainix and Falst. Thinkin that V.D. will try to take over, and we will get more of a “siblings fighting over the Xbox controller” vibe from it. Tess will go check on Erin and will not find him, then get ticked. The chapter is called Stone and Shadow, after all.
To clarify, I meant that we have the stone from the Hole, and and shadow from V.D. The title has nothing to do with Tess, and I know this. Happy bday Testing the waters!
There once was a primordial pill
Who wished all of creation ill.
He emerges at night
To give Erin a fright
And annoyingly refuses to chill.
I’ve been waiting to use those first two lines ever since I thought of them shortly after Voidy disappeared last time. I am certainly using them again. It’s just too much fun to call Voidy a pill *cackles gleefully*
Erin: I knew you’d probably take the chance to be annoying.
Voidy: Hey, it’s you who decided to let Life’s vessel take a nap! I’m taking my opportunity. You never let me have the body.
Erin: BECAUSE YOU DESTROY MY CLOTHES AND EVERYTHING AROUND ME AND WANT TO DESTROY THE WORLD
Voidy: Wah wah wah
Here we go, back in business! Glad to see you guys again.
It it just me, or does the Void Dragon sound very. . . human? Like for a primordial being that wishes to consume everything in existence, his mannerisms are oddly normal. His line of thought is reasonable, logical, without diving into being robotic or detached. He experiences very recognizably human emotions like, anger, and annoyance. He takes the time in battle to understand and assess his enemies. He expresses value in concepts like dignity when Tynan took his form, he can feel betrayal when the twins allowed humans to gain free will, he understands Erin enough to know how to appeal to his hubris, to poke at the insecurities in his past. He has even built up a rapport that allows him to use casual sarcasm.
He reminds me more of a devil character, someone who plots and tempts, and yearns for power, rather than any kind of cosmic being beyond mortal fathoming which only wants to destroy. I almost wonder if only a small fraction of his consciousness is actually in Erin which is why he has been able to take on these qualities, or if his millennia long, forced observance of mortals has shaped this creature into something with a more mortal outlook himself.
In contrast, the collector, a human, honestly seems more unnerving and otherworldly than Voidy simply because she seems incapable of comprehending the emotional damage she inflicts, while Voidy completely understands but just doesn’t care.
It makes sense to me that Void is rather similar to humans in emotional range, since he had a major hand (or more accurately, paw) in their creation. Light probably saw fit to base human sentience off of hers and his, to fling a sense of irony back at his snout, getting screwed over by beings that now behave fundamentally similarly to him, though obviously not too similarly; as far as we know, there’s just the one human omnicidal maniac running around, after all.
Erin’s relationship with the void dragon kinda reminds me of Harry’s relationship with the shadow Lasciel in the Dresden Files- I don’t neccesarily buy that what’s inside of Erin is the full dragon, more like a small corner poking through. And just like in that case, I don’t think that it’s as immutable and all powerful as it makes out. I think it has some very specific issues and limits going on there, and more vulnerability to being altered then it recognizes.
ERIN??????? BLROBO ?????????? LITTLE CAT??????????????? SPOINGLE????????? mrppmrprmmrrrrmmrr
Ooooo that updated void effect looks really good
For mobile readers.

Interesting start.
@bookfae: Happy Birthday!
Well. That’s ominous. Nice to get a good look at that fire lacrima. Also, first? Perhaps?
Welcome back Red! And welcome back Voidy too!
By lacrima light
A soft thump closes the book.
Now time for a chat.
Ah, I see they’re getting along like a hero and their talking weapon! Never trust talking weapons. Or dark, suspicious swirls of evil darkness. (Except maybe if you’re Victor from Suikoden II but that’s beside the point).
He sits alone, feels evil brew
Sarcastic comments must ensue
Yes I could have used the pause to work through more of the backlog, but I needed this break as well. It’s good to have you back though, Red!
these rhymes make me smile so much 🙂

I am so exciteddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd that the new page is out! But good on Red, taking some mental health time.

It’s me I am studio audience /pos (positive)

My favorite part of books is the characters. Thank you Red for creating some of the best characters I’ve seen, along with Brandon Sanderson.

I’m psycic LOL. I was just guessing, figured it would be good for angst. I have also watched like, ALL of the trope talks.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Woah, it’s been two weeks already? Welcome back everyone, it’s so good to see our Lads again! I have great concern.
There really is so much nonideal about this current situation, I don’t even know what Voidy’s referring to…
There once was a primordial pill
Who wished all of creation ill.
He emerges at night
To give Erin a fright
And annoyingly refuses to chill.
I’ve been waiting to use those first two lines ever since I thought of them shortly after Voidy disappeared last time. I am certainly using them again. It’s just too much fun to call Voidy a pill *cackles gleefully*
I love it
Casually refers to the Eldritch horror as annoying
Erin: Poor planning? I don’t think so. Good luck walking on this! It will take Alinua to fix this.
Next comic starts with large zoom out. Erin had broken his own left leg below the knee and melded it to stone he was sitting on.

Ask him about the Light Dragon, Erin! Stark9865 needs exposition!
I reread the comic while away and it was fantastic ? I’m so happy to be back though!
Erin: When I think about my worry and I think about my strife, here is what I simply say. AAAA
Welcome back red, hope you enjoyed your vacation.
uh oh? poor planning like his friends all sleeping?
“For the last time, you’re the villain. The villain can’t be IN the five-man band!”
“No, I’m the Heart! See, I’m in your chest and everything!”
underrated comment
You. You are hilarious. I hope you know this.
Oh no
TL;DR: They think you’re talking to yourself, but it’s so much more sinister than that…

OMINOUS TIMES
Ah. Hello again, Walter.
(Raises soda bottle to March birthday friends and Red’s continued good health and her friends too!)
