Whoa wait, Erin’s blue eye was the right side last page, are they full on switching back and fourth now? And oh man, I was just re-reading chapter 7 and this call back to the caves is fantastic, especially since it makes so much sense in the scene; void doesn’t care if Kendal dies so long as it means keeping Erin alive, but Erin is obviously not gonna let void provoke Tynan right now. Also, I’m really glad that Dainix is fine, I was a little bit worried when he hadn’t fully formed back last page.
All of you, stay back!” the dragon roars,
“I’ve indulged you for far too long!”
Void flares in Erin’s hand, but he crushes it with lightning,
Falst stares in fear, insufficiently strong.
“No more games! It’s time we ended this!”
Tynan the Storm-Dragon bellows.
As Kendal lies under the roaring dragon,
Beside him, his sword’s gem glows.
I’ve started making progress through chapter 2 again, hoping to keep that up.
Alt text: thank goodness, it feels like this fight has been going on for months!
Me: *goes to check how long it has actually taken
The first page with Tynan attacking Kendal was posted all the way back in February 4
Me: *processes that it literally has been months
Me:
Me: …..
AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
i’m curious to see Tynan’s plan here (although i doubt we will). either he kills Kendal, and then everyone else kills him. or he doesn’t kill kendal, and they remain in this standoff indefinitely? or he retreats, giving up his leverage AND losing the people’s fear, which isn’t an option. he’s really been cornered here
Wow, this page is gorgeous.
I have no idea what is going to happen next, but I hope either the sword starts doing stuff on its own, or the Archivest shows up.
(Hey, am I the first comment? that’s cool.)
okay, so… just a thought: does dainix have hulk syndrome? do his clothes magically return when he transforms back, or…?
cos if not, that fireproof poncho falst is clutching is gonna be very useful very soon
Tynan: I AM ONE HUNDRED AND TEN PERCENT DONE WITH- wait, why do I hear boss music playing beneath me?
@Leapyeargirl96 Yep, six months of fighting and they first entered Zuurith on April 19th last year and took a year to get outside the city walls. Ah well, at least it’s a more interesting environment than Namek.
@veggiesnake Methinks his plan is to attack the other gang members, starting with Erin as he’s the biggest threat, then finish off Kendal last. Maybe make a show of Kendal’s death to frighten the people.
Good news, Dainix has reformed, Tess is still conscious and Alinua is almost finished healing. Bad news, not a single one is in a position to do anything, even if Kendal wasn’t being threatened.
I figured V.D would try something; he doesn’t care what happens to Kendal. Good work on Erin trapping him with the same move again; if he and Tess ever come to blows, lightning may become his least favourite element.
Prediction for next week: Starfire burst, either entirely from Kendal and the sword or with added distant assistance from Vash. The former would give more to Kendal’s character arc and sense of self, the later could be used to bring the Collector back into the main story if she suspects Vash of pulling strings behind her back.
The art in panels 3 and 4 are really good. That is some master level visual storytelling.
The slightly sharpened angles of the fingers, the ominous shape of the cape, all the little things that make the pose itself aggressive, the hair falling over the face to leave only the left eye visible. And in the next: The softened, rounded shape of the hands, cape blowing back mostly out of sight, the more open and vulnerable pose, the hair blowing back to expose the face but with one eye closed to keep it obscured anyway. There are so many details in just those two shots and I really appreciate the effort that went in to make that work.
I love how Voidy seems more mad that Erin’s using the same trick as before than that he’s being pushed back
In other news, it’s good to see Tess still alive and basically intact, and I’m curious to know what she’ll have to say to Erin if she witnessed all of the void stuff (although I think it’d be a bit hard to miss).
Dainix’s fire seems to be coming from his chest rather than the ground (like I thought before). Is that a metaphor due to it originating from his emotions, or is it just because that area is close to the ground and fire goes up?
@Shira that’s really interesting! I didn’t notice that, so thank you for pointing it out!
So The Void Dragon’s words are fading as, presumably, he’s no longer able to speak aloud through Erin’s now-paralyzed body, and the two proceed to chastise each other in Erin’s mind. I imagine that Void might have some choice words for Erin (and for himself for succumbing to the same trick twice) that are a mote stronger than “damn”.
Oh, the lighting in the final panel is just… *chef’s kiss* It’s so beautiful!
Erin: If I had a nickel for every time I’ve had to paralyze myself to prevent my body from being used by an evil dragon who wants to eat the sun, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened twice right?
We have to wait three day for the next plot twist (or more). Cruel, but entertaining. I can just barely hear Red laughing (evilly) as she rubs her hands and plots her next move…
I didn’t say it earlier (because for me it was literally 3AM)
the art overall on this page is amazing, but I think the highlights are (as previously stated) the posing of VD and Erin and how it’s so clear that even though they’re in the same body they’re two different people. And the last panel, it’s just gorgeous. That lighting, and the subtle yet obvious glow of Kendal’s eye, it’s all just so *chef’s kiss
Alt Text: Great for adding that humour your soul craves, without ruining the mood of the scene. It’s like the less intrusive version of comic relief characters.
That lightning paralysis looks painful. I’m wondering if in the future, Walter will make sure that if Erin regains control of any part of his body while Walter has taken over, it definitely isn’t his left hand.
Also really looking forward to the conversation between Tess and Erin after this. Plus there’s prolly gonna be some more info about their past…
I’m wondering if Tess will want to join the party though, but Erin is against it because he blames himself too much for things that happened with her in the past.
Voidy didn’t waste a second’s thought for Kendal, did he? No “I could use this guy later” or “that flamethrower was a problem and without blondie I might be vulnerable.” I’m beginning to see why he lost against the Primordials. He’s thoughtful, but he gets pissed off and reacts like… like a dragon. So he doesn’t plan far enough ahead.
Also, I wonder how much access he has to Erin’s mind. Erin knew next to nothing about Dainix, so Voidy knows nothing. But would Voidy know, say, about Tess? During Erin’s dream when they first arrived in Zuurith it appeared he did, but then it wasn’t clear if that Voidy or Erin’s own guilty conscience.
@Hermit Thrush — Thank you. Then it’s pretty clear that Voidy has no access to Erin’s mind (one reason Erin can surprise him with self-inflicted lightning). Dainix could tell Erin his whole life history, and unless Voidy was controlling his body at that moment, Voidy would remain in the dark.
Voidy knows nothing of Tess, Falst is a random ferin to him (if he’s noticed him at all), and Kendal is only significant in that he’s resilient to void magic and made partially of star metal. He’s oblivious to Kendal’s connection to Vash and the quest after The Collector. Tynan’s history with Vash is also unknown (and irrelevant) to Voidy.
… actually, that sounds rather frustrating. Like falling asleep in front of the TV and waking up in the middle of the plot, with no clue how you got there.
TL;DR: Gonna savor the upcoming victory while you watch hopelessly from a distance, works every time. No that glowy sword isn’t going to ruin things also why are you electrocuting yourself I need you conscious to watch your friend’a defeat.
(Sorry this is late. School began and I haven’t had time to do much else)
Dude I don’t know how you did it but the blue glow effects on the sword and Kendal’s eyes are so, like, alluring. That’s not the right word, I don’t know what the right word it, but the glow just looks so good
@Leapyeargirl96 Erin’s eyes change color to match whatever magic he’s using at the moment. They’re normally blue, but turn red when casting fire, green for life magic, that kinda yellow-bronze for lightning, and so on.
@death pseudonym
thanks for reminding me of that, I actually had forgotten, but what I was actually referring to was the third panel and how Erin’s right eye is Void’s eye, and in the fourth panel the left eye (which was Void’s eye on the last page) is Erin’s eye
@leapyeargirl96 @Darth Pseudonym
Actually, Erin’s eyes don’t change color. Red herself confirmed that it’s just the light of his magic being reflected in his eyes, which are duller than the others’.
Why do I sense a sudden increase of the colour blue next page?
VD being mildly pissed at Erin for pulling the same trick
Ha, I knew it! Void doesn’t care if Kendal dies and tries to kill Tynan anyways.
Also, Kendal: now’s a good time to explode in starfire.
GRAB THE SWORD
Hey Kendal is that an Ultranecrozium Z in your sword? Because this looks like the time for a Light That Burns The Sky
And I love the alt text
(For those who can’t see it: “Thank goodness, feels like this fight has gone on for months”)
Also also, yay, Tess is alive!
Escalation time!!!

Erin does the lightning trick.
What will Kendal do?
okay, so… just a thought: does dainix have hulk syndrome? do his clothes magically return when he transforms back, or…?

god, what a phenomenal sequence. you’re really knocking this out of the park, red!
sword well in frame. this might go neat.
Erin has discovered his body’s Off Switch (it’s a magic taser).

my guy’s sword be floatin? poggers magic sword time?
“Dammit, now I’ve had enough!”
Thinks Tynan, while Erin himself switches off
I love how Voidy seems more mad that Erin’s using the same trick as before than that he’s being pushed back

Erin has electrocuted himself [4] times so far in this comic
I’m still hoping for Falst to make a comeback!! Or Danix and Glowy Blue Kendal. But I’m hoping for FALST.
Erin: If I had a nickel for every time I’ve had to paralyze myself to prevent my body from being used by an evil dragon who wants to eat the sun, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it’s happened twice right?
Erin no! Let him kill Tynan before you shove him back down!
Tynan: STOP BEING MORE IMPORTANT THAN ME! I’M AN INCREDIBLE NARCISSIST AND THIS IS TERRIBLE FOR MY WORLDVIEW!
We have to wait three day for the next plot twist (or more). Cruel, but entertaining. I can just barely hear Red laughing (evilly) as she rubs her hands and plots her next move…
QotD:
If you could have a mini version of any Aurora dragon as a pet, which would it be?

Nooooo, i just reread the comic and I end on this……. The tension, I can’t wait for Monday

OOOHH and right under the belly AKA vulnerable spot
“It’s time we ended this!”
Yes. Yes it is.
SOMETHING is bouta pop out I just know it
YES!!! I FINALLY am all caught up on the chapters!
Oh no, I’m all caught up on the chapters. NOOOOOOO!

@icarusancalion Red confirmed that the “VD [Walter]” in Erin’s dream was actually Erin’s conscience
kendal: *looks at sword*
“im about to do whats called a pro gamer move”

Gah! I just realized I mis-typed both of your names I’m sorry
ohhhh the one eye voidy one eye erin thing on the middle panels is incredible!
