“if the dragon is surprised that leading with his strongest attack did nothing he should’ve really watched more DBZ”
Alternatively, he could’ve watched the Sans boss fight in Undertale’s Genocide Route.
The ravening darkness bursts forth from his hand.
“Free will did your species no favours.”
The fire is shredded to a handful of flames
It flickers weakly and wavers.
A hand shoots out, grabs Erin’s wrist,
It did no flickering, though.
Brighter than ever the fire-figure burned,
The Void Dragon pulled back from the inferno.
I’m feeling for the Void Dragon right now, it is way too hot over here.
…I want to know SO much more about Dainix I can’t even
And hasn’t there been one long varied kaiju fight for a while now? I, for one, welcome this überpowermegafight of DOOM and awesomeness with different combatants. Amazing.
i’m guessing that this fire body (a veritable hot bod, if you will) isn’t completely invulnerable, just that, Dainix literally being the fire as Tahraim said, he can regenerate this body almost instantly as long as he isn’t completely extinguished. case and point: VD void-lasered Dainix’ face, floof, and entire upper body, but missed the fire equivalent of his shins. Dainix effectively reignited from his knees up
but if someone were to extinguish Dainix completely, all at once, i think that would still kill him, since this fire is sort of also his soul? but idk how someone would do that other than with a void laser, since we already know not even an ocean will put soulfire out. at least, that’s how i’m reading this; otherwise, Dainix just became ever so slightly immortal
Oh yeah Dainix is joining the gang whether he wants to or not. Can’t hurt having as many people as possible about who can effectively contain Erin’s “uninvited guest”.
And since that’s their thing, I’ll leave the alt text to Hermit Thrush.
Oops, didn’t go exactly to plan-
Petition to call this version of Dainix the Fire Floof
yes, he’s a living inferno, but somehow he still has floofy hair
Tharaim used to be a mortal? Now that’s interesting. And your theory makes sense – we’ve seen Tharaim using fire breath. I thought it had something to go with his domain being centered around forging, but now you pointed that out, that’s how Danix’s using his soulfire most of the time.
A mighty ”Crack!”, is he beaten down?
No, rises up, and makes Walter frown
The reason I don’t think that’s Primordial Fire? He’s too small. Remember how big Life was when She appeared? So V.D. saying Dainix has let Fire eat him, he means summoned so much of Fire’s power that it completely encompasses his soul. Also we’ve heard nothing about the Collector waking other Primordials than Life, so they’re still dead in canon.
I hope this is something inherent to Dainix. As badass as this is, and it is very badass, I just hope he isn’t another vessel for something else. As far as the actual power set goes, he almost seems akin to a fiery Venom in terms of being able to completely regenerate in his second form and not his first. It’s a unique fighting style to add to the party.
HEY! Dainix grabbed Erin/Walter’s arm right where his Fire element tattoo is, if I remember correctly. Isn’t it on his right hand, closest to the wrist?
The difference in spellcasting is so cool. When Erin did his giant fireball (granted he never looks like he’s putting all that much effort into throwing insane amounts of magic around), he took a stable stance and actually bothered to stand his ground. Walter does no such thing. He’s unimaginably powerful, of course, but if you actually managed to bap him on the forehead he’d just go straight down.
If other transformed Crucibles were overtaken by an indiscriminate fury, considering their regenerative powers, no wonder they were able to wreak so much devastation. It’s a good thing Dainix received that visit from Tahraim beforehand.
Considering that Dainix gave Falst the fireproof poncho before transforming, his soulfire is evidently so hot that even being near it can be harmful, to say nothing of touching it. Dainix might be scarring over Erin’s fire and wind tattoos right now.
A few weeks later, the Light Dragon shows up and the two start fighting in spirit dragon form, and Red’s comment” “I lied, THIS is the part of the script I internally labelled “kaiju fight”.
From the script’s perspective? It’s kaiju fights all the way down.
I love Red’s attention to detail, namely in this case that his burnt-out eye can be seen with a large gout of yellow flame erupting from it even in this form. Absolutely beautiful panel of Dainix about to bear down on Voidy.
The art is, again, beautiful. I’m honestly starting to expect it at this point.
A couple of things to add to the ‘Dainix is Fire’ discussion:
I wanted to go back to see if his hands look like Fire’s hands in 1-7-19, but they don’t, which is pretty good evidence that whatever this is, it isn’t Fire’s actual incarnation. Also, Life always talks. She has, you know, a personality. Plus she only intervenes when Ali’s unconscious.
With all that, though, I don’t really think anyone was claiming this is Fire’s *actual* incarnation, just that Dainix is using copious amounts of his power. Which could mean he’s Fire’s vessel, or it could just be the Crucible.
On a completely different note, have you noticed how many people in our growing party struggle with free will? Like, Kendal and Ali have questionable free will (at least to them), Erin has… very little, seeing as he can be possessed pretty easily, Tess just straight up DIDN’T until she was Chosen, which means it’s important to her, and Dainix and Falst were both just sort of… internalized that they were menaces to society, which isn’t restricting their free will nessassarily, just seeming to give them one path forward. Kind of funny how Walter says ‘ Free will did your species no favors,’ isn’t it?
I’m starting to sense a theme
Or that one episode of Digimon Data Squad with the DemMeramon… Or heck, he’s been possessing Erin long enough that surely he’s observed the Floof Squad tending a campfire…
Either way, Voidy’s in for a nasty surprise (again), and Dainix is probably going to have an interesting time processing the experience once he returns to his normal form (assuming he doesn’t just pass out first, because Soulfire form or not reconstituting oneself from embers after being shredded like that has got to take a lot of energy (just ask the Deoxys from Destiny Deoxys… )
@Zer0 W0lf ty for posting the alt text! Oh, and @silver, don’t worry about stepping on my toes — posting the alt text in the comments is an accessibility hotfix (and a boon to phone users), so I just post it if no one has by the time I read the comic. So if you don’t see mine, feel free to go for it.
@Skye after watching ATLA I always wanted to be an airbender. But I wouldn’t exactly turn down being a Life mage. or a wind mage. or a lightning mage. or a stone mage. Or–
You know what happens to fire when you blow on it and you don’t put it out? Yeah, it gets stronger.
@Zer0 W0lf Does this mean VD is going to get smacked down and THEN evolve to a stronger form? In true DB form, we need to stretch this fight out for several months.
…huh. Wait, wasn’t the reason Dainix came to the Arena originally to try and die, thus destroying the fire inside him? Cause, um, honey, if the literal primordial incarnation of Void can’t kill this thing, somehow I doubt that some rando gladiator could.
@Mturtle7: We know he left the Rauan Desert to try to find a way to kill the “demon”, e.g. kill himself. The gladiatorial arena was NOT part of that plan, however, as he wound up there after camping near Zuurith, being attacked by godless bandits, and then being arrested on ridiculous pretences. He wanted out of that arena to continue his quest.
I do hope that Tahraim’s pep talk helped with lessening his desire to commit suicide. Although he will certainly still want more info about what exactly being a Crucible means.
To Silver:
Sorry, I added that bit just before posting as I initially wrote the comment ob the previous page. I didn’t really notice using “his” as a default pronoun.
Ever hear of this series called Salvation War, where demons try and invade Earth in the modern era, assuming that nothing meaningful had changed in the last five hundred years since the last time they checked on humanity since they pretty much hadn’t changed any in the ten thousand years before that, and they get totally bodied by the new and interesting weapons that humans have come up with since the industrial revolution? Just popped into mind, couldn’t tell you why.
Hermit Thrush:
No, but then again none of us are seeing any of us anyway.
In all serious though, I haven’t been paying much attention to the comments since nobody’s engaged me and I’m bad at starting things, so what I have to say may not be much, but no. Haven’t seen hiiiii lately.
There once was a soulfire Floof
Who at Voidy’s attack went POOF,
But some sparks remained.
His full form he regained,
Showing that he is void-proof.
On a totally different note, did anyone else notice that Voidy’s cape looks like his dragon form in panel 1? That is such a cool detail!! It’s like it symbolizes the Void Dragon crouching in Erin’s soul.
@skye, I would be a life mage, I’ve always thought of myself as a healer. But lightning or water would be cool too, which makes me think, it’s been said that someone can channel more than one element, I wonder if someone were a lightning mage and a water mage they could use the water to amplify the effects of the lightning, I wonder if Erin will ever do something like that, that would be EPIC

I looked up inb4 and I learned a new thing, well 2 because I also looked up smol;
is inb4 the antonym of Meta?
follow up;
Does that agree with Einsteins theories regarding time dilation and perspective?
Aris:
What does inb4 have to do with Einstein’s theories on time? It’s just getting in a response to a sentiment you expect other people to have to something you’ve already said, or in this case, predicting something is going to happen and wanting to make it clear that you predicted it and didn’t just say you had predicted it after it actually happens. You’re essentially just pre-emoting criticism.
In panel one, there are bright streaks being blasted stage left by the void. Are those Dainix’s soul shimmers being obliterated? Is he the type who, so long as a small part of him remains the entirety of his being remains?
Coming back after the newest comic, it seems like soulfire can transmute void into light and vice-versa. (You can see wisps of blue-white light associated with LD)
“if the dragon is surprised that leading with his strongest attack did nothing he should’ve really watched more DBZ”

Dainix: The fire’s still there, isn’t it?
The Greatest Coolest Godsmith: Of course. You’re a Crucible. You ARE the fire.
Ohhhh boi. Dainix is able to regenerate from VD’s blasts. Yeah… VD’s cool powers are getting overpowered over and over
FOR YOU SEE Void Dragon, this is no ORDINARY ignan. He has risen above and become a LEGEND… the legend that you fear!
Elemental magus vs. superpowered fire being, let’s goooo
Don’t you hate it when the guy you just disintegrated comes back and interrupts your villainous monologue?
red, dont lie to us, everything since Tynan appeared is labeed kaiju fight
The ravening darkness bursts forth from his hand.

oooooohhhhhh kendal’s not gonna like this…
but honestly, kendal really needs to get over his whole hero complex before i start to not like him anymore
also can we just talk about ERIN’S CAPE
To Silver, about his theory on the previous page:

Oh wait, soulfire is different from elemental fire, isn’t it? Does it still come from Primordial Fire then?
Didn’t snuff out all the sparks, gotta be more thorough.
TL;DR: Trick candles. Of course.
I love Demon-Dainix’s lack of sound effects. Villain who monologues VS silent protagonist, FIGHT!
I hope this is something inherent to Dainix. As badass as this is, and it is very badass, I just hope he isn’t another vessel for something else. Alinua&Falst: OH MY GOD CALL THE AMBULANCE!!
Dainix, about to(hopefully) kick Walter’s butt for a couple panels: But not for me.
HEY! Dainix grabbed Erin/Walter’s arm right where his Fire element tattoo is, if I remember correctly. Isn’t it on his right hand, closest to the wrist?
The difference in spellcasting is so cool. and Red keeps ratcheting up the tension! (Mind still going TILT! TILT! TILT!)
The art is, again, beautiful. I’m honestly starting to expect it at this point.

You discover in a moment of danger you are an elemental mage. Which element are you channeling?
@Skye um, i don’t know. you tell me, you came up with the question

@CaptainCutlet: HER theory. And thanks!
Please don’t kill Erin, Dainix. We like him.
New meme
every time something cool happens we comment “I lied: THIS is the part of the script I labeled ‘kaiju fight'” or smth like that
Void is going to give as good as he gets, because every line out of his mouth is FIRE!
You know what happens to fire when you blow on it and you don’t put it out? Yeah, it gets stronger.
@Zer0 W0lf Does this mean VD is going to get smacked down and THEN evolve to a stronger form? In true DB form, we need to stretch this fight out for several months.

Oh my gosh the art in this comic just KEEPS GETTING BETTER- the first & last panels are GORGEOUS
I havent been keeping up w comments lately so idk if yall knew this already but THE NEW CHAPTER COVER IS OUT??
BTW has anyone seen @hiiiii recently?
is this entire chapter just called Kaiju Fight?
@Skye personally I find the versatility of water magic to be the most appealing
To Silver:

*pre-empting criticism. Autocorrect, am I right?
I hope Dainix isn’t Fire. That would too… redundant. Yes, Dainix is connected to Fire, but I don’t believe he’s Fire’s vessel.
@Hermit Thrush – yes, I’ve been wondering lately where Hiiiiii is. Haven’t seen her for quite some time.
@Skye – probably a life or wind mage. Maybe water, but I think probably wind? I’m not sure which one XD
