also this is WAY more interesting than what i expected the Vault to be; June looks to be becoming a more long-term character, and i’m so here for it. unfortunately, she’s probebly going to end working opposite Erin and the Void Dragon, but i expect she’ll be somewhat more sympathetic towards him than the Champion (who is constantly closing in)
honestly, this set-up to June’s quest gives me more main character vibes than any of he Floof Squad and i don’t know why. something about younths being trusted with great responsibilities and then sent out into the world, especially by a magical organisation (okay, maybe i do know why). lady niluca’s encouragement here is surprisingly moving as well
plus, we can see the Lady/Light Dragons’s runic symbol on the bag, or what i assume is that.
The bold-hearted acolyte, she ran through the storm

Niluca: This is the most important task you’ve done so far, everyone is counting on you and this could be the last time we meet.
J.A.: (gasp) Does this mean my name will finally be revealed?
Niluca: … Ehhh, we’ll talk about that later.
Never thought about it before but it makes total sense for the Paladins to have at least one bag of holding. If their cult dates back to the time of the ancients they’re bound to have and use a bunch of their artefacts.
So it seems J.A.’s story may not be over yet; I’m not saying she’s a contender to join the squad, but she may be a contender to join the squad. However as I type this I also realise that if Erin and Dainix do beat Tynan the archive would be saved and she would just return to it; with the archive and it’s people safe she has no reason to travel with the group, or even just leave Zuurith.
Art wise, thank you for the rain effects Red, they look great. Also that is a lovely mural of what I assume is Light Dragon in the final panel.

So this tells us that June is going to be a lot more prominent in the future, seeing as these texts seem pretty damn important so there’s a high chance that she’ll be a more active character in the future.
Also, do u guys get the reason why her nickname is June? JUNior archivist = JUNE.

Ooooh, more insight into the Paladins! I’m fascinated by the vault. It’s the second time we’ve seen something that is said to be bigger on the inside(the first being Erin’s bag). I wonder how that works? Some kind of space-bending magic?

Didn’t even notice the light dragon on the wall on my first read through. Great attention to detail!
Also, I am really starting to ship June and Erin. If you think back, her being the only one in town not to be impressed by his status, but empathize when he shows actual emotion and sincerity is such a cool meet cute. Beyond that, they both like books to search for the truth. They both have a penchant for long sleeves, THEY ARE PERFECT!
The fact that they align with opposed cosmic beings is just icing on the cake.

lots of talk here about June joining the floof squad but personally I’m getting more “hero of another story” vibes from her. I suspect she’s going to be a recurring character having offscreen adventures which occasionally converge with the floof squad.

They have a bag of holding too! It’s debatable if June has a name though, since she only seems to be called “acolyte” by Niluca. But if she’s going out on her own with a trove of ancient knowledge, maybe she’s going to be a reoccurring character. I still don’t understand *why* though. I guess I’ll stick with my theory about her somehow connecting with the Michael plot thread we were introduced to way back when, but we’ll see.

If you look very closely, The Light Dragon’s mural is made of diagonal square tiles, while the rest of the wall is smooth marble. Nice little detail!

And the positioning of the mural isn’t helping much… That being said, I have this horrible feeling that the contents of that bag of holding aren’t going to survive to the end of the comic. Big responsibility in a newbie’s hands? Yeah, doesn’t usually end well, even if they’ve done everything right…

For all we know, all three of them could be members, either permanently or on a rotating basis. I do think Dainix is pretty much a shoe-in at this point, but I’m not ruling Tess or June out–in fact, I do hope we get to see all of them travelling as a party (I can’t remember if there’s been any hint as to how large the party is ultimately going to be, but seven’s a decent crew.)

Bibbly Bio: that’s intresting, even though Red would probably never do it it would certainly take the plot in ways it couldn’t otherwise. i never would have considered that, though as aro ace i don’t really think about character ships except to protest when people ship characters who are related or i consider to be found family.
@Hermit Thrush Erin and Tess are, presumably, still outside the north gate, where Tynan and Kendal are fighting in a tornado. That’s why Lady Niluca is adving June to head east or south.

@Alolavupix: That is true Red might not go for the romantic spin. Still, I do hope these characters get more time together because for me the height for romance and friendship is two people nerding out about common interests and these two characters are the most nerdy characters yet to be introduced, and they certainly have a common interest between the dragons and just generally serving the public good. They also were both raised by magic enclaves, so I feel that they could unpack some baggage together.
@confusedqueer: I do understand that Erin’s relationship with the dark dragon is far less consensual than June’s to her dragon so I guess aligned isn’t the best word. I mean if anyone on the planet is aligned with the dark dragon it would be Erin but I agree it still doesn’t seem like the best term.
I am kinda getting those vibes of her not joining the group too. I could see June being to Aurora what suki was in ATLA. Someone important to the characters and plot who might even participate in final battles, but whose time will mostly be spent off screen.
