It would appear that Tynan is celebrating a tad prematurely. Best not to count your terrorized citizens while the fight is still going, because Vash didn’t hear no bell.
To summarize, in some narratives, the interlude/exposition chapters can not only be used for world building, but could also be used for the foreshadowing for events to come. Of course, this could also be a red herring for those theorizing what the narratives conclusion could be. Brandon Sanderson’s Mistborn: The Well of Ascension is a perfect example of this. So in conclusion, we’ll either see some similarities between Vash’s story and Kendel’s character arc or possibly a subverted expectation battle. It’s quite too early to say
Actually, I think it’s more likely that both Kendals are one and the same. Since the sword was a part of the incarnation at one point and since it has such a unique origin, I think it’s possible that the sword sparked Kendal’s consciousness? Or that the consciousness in the sword moved into Vash’s empty body. Does that sound plausible? (Also I don’t understand what PersonMcPerson means either)
Okay so, the steel and jewel are obviously the sword, right? So what if he uses the steel and jewel to make the sword, and heals himself in the process? What if the jewel is his eye and the steel is his arm?
I believe that he replaced his eye with the gem and his arm with the metal, making them “his own” before later forging them into his sword. This was stated at some point before, if I recall correctly. I think when Kendal first chose his name?
TL;DR: Welcome to Divine Rumble I don’t know what number. I am your host, strange narrator entity. Round one is looking bad for blue city god. Can he pull things around and stage a huge upset against the reigning champion?
IN THE BLUE CORNER, WE HAVE: VASH, MASTER OF FLOOF, CITY-DEFENDER! HE’S THE NEWCOMER THIS MATCH, SO WE’RE ALL VERY INTERESTED TO SEE WHAT HE CAN BRING TO THE TABLE! WATCH HIM GIVE IT THE OL’ BISHY-BASHY-BOSHY FOR HIS HOME!
AND IN THE… er… SLIGHTLY LESS BLUE SORTA LILAC CORNER, WE HAVE: TYNAN, SHADOW OF THUNDER, FEAR-STROM! YOU KNOW HIM! YOU’RE ABSOLUTELY BLOODY TERRIFIED OF HIM! HE’S THE REIGNING CHAMPION (heh) OF THE SEASON. CAN HE KEEP HIS WINNING STREAK UP? WE’RE ABOUT TO FIND OUT! FIGHT!
Ah, um, me? Well um…
OH MY! IT SEEMS THAT TYNAN HAS DISARMED VASH! THAT’S GOTTA HURT FOLKS. IT SEEMS LIKE VASH CAN’T DO ANY DAMAGE! WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT? DOES VASH EVEN STAND A CHANCE?!
Tynan: MORE EPITHETS! MORE!
Poor hubristic Tynan savouring a victory he hasn’t won yet. He will learn, as they all do, the hard way.
Vash viewing his incarnation as a weapon goes a lot into explaining Kendal’s initial mindset and view of himself.
Red keeps killing it with the storytelling vibe, elemental spirals in the background, the simple style of the people compared to the gods, how Tynan and his storm tower over everything else in each panel, all coming together so well.
Tynan could probably get just as much fulfilment as an actor playing a horror movie villains, or really just any villain for that matter. You don’t have to be an actual real life asshole to get people to fear you, just saying.
Twelve and a half percent! We’ve got another Reacher Gilt level magnificent bastard!
(If this doesn’t make sense I’ve been reading too much Terry Pratchett)
Reacher Gilt is the primary antagonist in Going Postal. Twelve and a half percent is the same as a piece of eight, and his parrot, which he carries on his shoulder, constantly goes off about twelve and a half percent. In short, he is broadcasting to everyone about how he will take what is yours. Legally of course, as this is Ankh-Morpork.
I’m coming back here after the scene in Kendal’s dream to point out that the color scheme of the People of Vash here is quite similar to their color scheme in that weird dreamscape…
Something really nice about this presentation is the consideration for who is telling the story. Tarhim. Since the gods can’t really see mortals well or tell them apart (at least not like we can tell each other apart – and for that, humans aren’t exactly great at picking out individuals in crowds). So while focusing on what part to convey, the low detail of the mortals conveys this as well (and totally not because drawing crowds is detail intensive) It’s neat how we can see the difference in perception of various individuals.
Tynan is the King of Theater Villains
Tynan, Shadow of Thunder, god-killer, the god of too many titles!
The greeks called him Polynymbus
Oooooh I love how Red implies that Vash is a weapon
His incarnation is, at least. That might be all she meant.
There’s noooo possible way this could turn the other way for Tynan – no, sir, it won’t!
Vash: I’ll slay you with the power of friendship. And this gun!
Vash: I will slay you with the power of friendship, And this gun!

Oh no! He has lost a gun!
It was like steel….
Why do I feel that this is foreshadowing a future event in the story?
Prediction: the sword Kendal has will somehow turn into Vash
I request elaboration.

Oh, no I understand that. I just don’t understand PersonMcPerson’s prediction.

Okay tbh idk what I was talking about either
You are actually right, PersonMcPerson. Vash incorporated the jewel into his eye socket and the metal into his arm, thus making it his own.
(hint hint/spoilers?)
the extra lore tab has something on this.

Tynan, God of puffy, impractical sleeves that billow like farts in his own wind.
Tynan, the Theater Kid

P.S. Look, Blue’s back!

Yes amazing commentary. You shall make a great reporter some day.
I’m imagining Somebody as Patroclus’ reporting mentor now…
Do YOU have anything to add to the repot?
Ah, um, me? Well um…
OH MY! IT SEEMS THAT TYNAN HAS DISARMED VASH! THAT’S GOTTA HURT FOLKS. IT SEEMS LIKE VASH CAN’T DO ANY DAMAGE! WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT? DOES VASH EVEN STAND A CHANCE?!
FIND OUT NEXT TIME ON DRAGONBALL Z!

The more epithets he has, the poofier his cloud hair gets. Eat your heart out, Maybelline.
But since we already know how it goes he’s about to get sucker punched
Tynan: the Maleficent of this world
Pride and a haughty spirit goeth before whatnow, Tynan?
I’m a god. Learning is beneath me.
-Cloud hair, probably.
i just spit out my drink lmao
What from, filthy mortal? You shall not spit in my presence!
Tynan could probably get just as much fulfilment as an actor playing a horror movie villains, or really just any villain for that matter. You don’t have to be an actual real life asshole to get people to fear you, just saying.
Welcome to the Tynan haunted house! Prepare to be spooked! And drenched! And potentially electrocuted! (Shut up you signed the waver didn’t you?)
Twelve and a half percent! We’ve got another Reacher Gilt level magnificent bastard!
(If this doesn’t make sense I’ve been reading too much Terry Pratchett)
I’ve never read any Terry Pratchett books… so yeah, it makes no sense

“MWAHAHAHAHA! Once I kill this god, I will have like, at least 3 more epithets!”
Sorry Tynan, but Vash has at least a century before his city dies.
*reads alt text*
No, we don’t want you, fuck off! We have more than enough thunderstorms as it is!!
Well that explains the “Right Hand” aspect to Kendall
nooo Tynan isn’t a villain, he’s just misunderstood! I mean look at the cute fella, how can you think he’s a villain
Aww come on villains can be cute and floofy. It’s how they get you.
*glares at Jolon*
*glares at void dragon*
In the name of the cute baddies movement! Big, bad, and utterly adorable.
C’mon Vash! Aim for the glowing Weak point!
…The whole darn thing is glowing and on the offense…
*glares at void dragon*
“he lost his right arm and left eye”
lucky I got this blue gem and metal ingot you can shove in both of those crevices *bad finger guns*
Tout nuage que tu es… je vais te couper en deux.
