Well, it’s the style of healing powers. Also, Deadpool has more than just healing powers in the comics, if I remember correctly he literally has a deal with death to let him come back. Wolverine will die if you can cut his head off, and has claws, but Deadpool’s powerset is absolute immortality, nothing more, nothing less.
I really like how this page and the last chapter in general has given more of an insight into Vashs character and how it differs from Kendal. Its quite subtle but still significant.
Definitely, Erin hasn’t yet learned the perils of monologuing. Not that the Collector’s internalized that lesson either (citation: the entirety of the last chapter), but at least she’s trying.
Collector: You’re not funnelling my exposition to a protagonist, are you?
No part remains unchanged? Granted her that gift? Looking at Alinua I think the Collector seriously misjudges Life’s intents and motives. Just because you were the first one Life-sempai noticed doesn’t mean you’re the one for her.
So according to that flashback her hair was always that long and straight and isn’t a case of her just leaving it to grow.
Said flashback is wonderfully drawn with it’s use of the green glow, and yes Red the purple crystal effect is worth all the milage it’s getting.
Well, I guess Kendal’s status was going to be compromised eventually, nice to see it was from the Collector’s own deductions rather than any fault of his. Now, will Kendal escape before the Collector spots him? If she does will she become interested as to his existence, or wary of his threat, and track him down?
Agreed, I’ve been thinking for a while now The Collector is less ‘chosen by Life’ and more ‘glimpsed her entirety for an instant and had both body and mind warped’.
Like Alinua isn’t really aware of Life? In the same way? She’s had some visions, but certainly doesn’t know Life’s true name like the Collector, I feel like it’s very much like the sort of Lovecraftian idea, or The Unspeakable from Kamigawa in MTG.
Possibly Life is intentionally keeping Alinua more in the dark after seeing what happened to the Collector. Or Life genuinely isn’t even aware of the Collector – the Collector woke Life up, eminently possible she wasn’t really aware or much for a while due to the, you know, being spread across every living thing.
everyone appreciates your TL;DRs, they always make us smile, they are just frequently too short to reply to, and you aren’t here to see me chuckle.
and remember, everyone loves Somebody! 😛
Vash’s retort in panel 5 reminds me that, in terms of a pantheon at least, he’s a “hotshot hero with a heart of gold” type, and he’s leaning in pretty hard now compared to the “guiding light” mode he’s been stuck as for a while. (PS Also, trying to make alliterative trope names are cool)
Yeah, I think a semi-conscious Eldritch deity who gets mad at chimeras existing wouldn’t choose someone who makes chimeras (on purpose of course, assuming the whole chimeric plague’s side effects were an unfortunate accident and Life herself caused the plague)- though that might just mean the power can’t be revoked? And I think the collector said that she (partially) awoke life herself or something similar, so I don’t think life made the conscious decision to ‘pick’ her. Though, that does bring up the question, did the plague start before or after the collector started doing her thing? I feel like it’s connected, like the plague was meant to find a proper host for her powers to stop the collector or at least do as she pleases in the physical world. Sorry I kinda hijacked your comment Guandaside-
Well according to the extra lore I found it seems that the life mage responsible for discovering Life’s truename vanished after doing so and the Chimeric plague first came about less than two decades later. I get the distinct feeling that mage was the Collector, by finding Life’s truename she awoke her and then she started the plague looking for a vessel. I doubt Life wants the chimeric mutations that come from the plague, but she didn’t have any involvement in making vessels for herself like V.D. did, so I guess she had to find a suitable user through trial-and-error via the plague.
I am certain that’s the case; Life likely started trying to obtain a vessel/avatar in order to put an end to The Collector’s and/or The Void Dragon’s shenanigans, and the chimeric plague is how that selection process manifested.
“So if someone were looking to foil your scheme without you know destroying all life or unleashing other horrors, how might they do it? And can you explain that with like a power point presentation and a comprehensive list of bullet points? There is nothing suspicious at all about this line of questioning.”
Panel 3 has me intrigued. The Collector’s eye’s seem to be blank and empty, which seems strange when considering that the eyes seem to be linked to souls or something. Compare this to 1.3.29, where Alinua’s eyes are glowing yellow-green. Does this imply that the Collector has no soul???
Ahh great, well I guess this ends the exposition
Watch her actually be defeated by a peanut allergy
So Life just gave her deadpool/lich powers ?
It is a sign of the times that the Healing Factor is now Deadpool Powers and not Wolverine Powers.

that third panel is gorgeous!
wait no i take it back, this whole page is great
I’m going to call the Collector E.T. from now on, and you can’t stop me.
Ooh, I didn’t see the E.T. parallel! I just thought of the Creation of Adam painting in the Sistine Chapel
Nice, that’s what I saw too
Same here!
“Ooh, I didn’t notice the [pop culture reference]! I just thought of the [famous Renaissance artwork]”
I only feel mildly personally attacked, but that’s hilarious.
oh no my italics went too far
yeah, you have to put an

@patroclus this is definitely one of the nerdiest fanbases i’ve ever seen and i adore it
oh dude you’re right it does look like the creation of adam!

AND I WOULD’VE GOTTEN AWAY WITH IT IF IT WEREN’T FOR YOU, MEDDLING WITCH.
So… This is where Erin and the Collector’s characters differ, right? We can all agree that Erin would keep talking into eternity.
Definitely, Erin hasn’t yet learned the perils of monologuing. Not that the Collector’s internalized that lesson either (citation: the entirety of the last chapter), but at least she’s trying.
“You sly dog! You got me monologuing!”
monologuing is not a victimless crime

Thanks for helping me with italics yesterday!
Oh come on just give us a list of weaknesses.
Imagine: “yes, hello, I’m here to submit my application for Viliians Inc, here’s my list of weaknesses for the hero to exploit okay bye!”
TL;DR: That’s all the exposition you’ll be getting, weirdly inquisitive prisoner!
this is excellent
Thank you! It means a lot to me when people appreciate my TL;DR s.

You mean “paragon.”
Maybe a gift granted can be revoked.
Maybe life is still OK with this, but I doubt it since she is trying to free her right next to the mortal planet eating dragon.
Maybe it’s less of a gift, and more of a sneeze.

I had been fearing this would happen since the moment Vash started asking about Zuurith.
WHy aRe YOu sO SmArT, ColLeCtOr!
Ah. I can see she had a top-notch education. PhD in biology. Excellent.
Considering the time frame, did the Chimera Plague start when the Collector woke up Life?
I am certain that’s the case; Life likely started trying to obtain a vessel/avatar in order to put an end to The Collector’s and/or The Void Dragon’s shenanigans, and the chimeric plague is how that selection process manifested.

Yes, Collector, something has changed. Kendal has learned that sleep is a handy tool to get some of that sweet, sweet exposition.
If she has super regeneration she could get super cancer.
It would be kinda sad to beat her with super cancer.
But it would be kinda funny too…
a super peanut allergy? maybe her negative reaction scales up with her healing factor. Just touch a peanut, and pop like a balloon. 😛
