On another topic, I can’t help but wonder if Stefan is being genuinely polite here. Nothing of his characterization so far seems to indicate otherwise, but you never know.
I think he’s trying to negotiate to get some info out of kendal, he probably knows fighting him is kinda pointless in this current situation compared to getting new insights, especially when he sees that kendal is not immediately hostile. Is he actually genuinely polite, I mean idk, it could just be him acting with etiquette I guess. He’s probably one of my favorite characters actually and wow did he earn that quick. Love some actually smart and immediately awful antagonists!
Oh, Panel 3 is so amazing. The silhouette of the Void Dragon circling Erin’s little ice bubble like a shark…Chef’s Kiss. Of course, a lot of why it’s so great is because he’s in the middle of saying “Either you accept my power now and get yourself out of this mess, or I’ll do it myself later” which is its own set of dark chills on its own.
Falst: Hmm, the boss isn’t wearing a helmet. One good rock throw and- Tess: No! At least, not yet. We can buy more time for Erin and Dainix if the head honcho goes into monologue mode.
I like the echo between the two scenes in the last panels; our heroes cold, wet and exhausted surrounded by the ocean on one side and draconic forces on the other. Not sure if intentional or whether this was just the best way to frame the beach confrontation, and show Tess and Falst are here too, but the parallels are there.
Ok, so no Erin rescue for at least a couple of weeks; our bedraggled boy needs to marinade in the ice a little longer. While we keep calling for Alinua to save the day, there’s no hint of her on the chapter cover or title, which Red does like to use to foreshadow. Maybe Dainix actually will be successful at driving Calian away and, with the dragon gone, they can continue as they were.
Prediction for next week: Stefan attempts diplomacy, or at least information gathering, Tess and Falst want to help, but know there are far too many Paladins, and Kendal will warm Stefan and Co. of the volcano danger, but will go unheeded.
I don’t want to split hairs, but Kendal is 100% Thor. Falst or Dainix are probably more like the Hulk given their RAGE tendencies.
Now that I think about it, it is interesting how Falst has moments of blind rage in combat and Dainix’s Soulfire is driven by anger and raw emotion as well. They have so much in common!
Also, for a few months now i’ve been going back and forth on whether or not voidy has spines in his true name icon or if it’s just that his head is tilted, and this is a very validating silhouette to the former.
for a solid half a second I thought Tess and Falst was watching from begind a big purply bush full of berries, and then I realized that that’s an army.
Oh, NOW we get a cut back to Kendal’s situation. At least we know about what Falst and Tess are doing, though. This page has the most individual Floof Squad members in quite a while, seeing as Alinua is STILL missing in action and Dainix isn’t in this shot.
