you should really hang onto one of those messenger things. it’d make everyone’s life a lot easier, except of course mine

Dainix is underwater (and transformed). The spellbord won’t be able to track him. Also, out of the entire group, Dainix is the person least endangered by a volcanic euruption.
Yes, but Falst must warn the boyfriend first. Those are the rules.
Maybe the first comment?
Nope
that awkward moment when you go save someone and they save themself right when you show up
Totally better to have a preemptive success than a postemptive failure!
(is that a word? well it is now)
Wow, trying to magically bind someone who’s race is notable for their “enhanced magical resistance” didn’t work out well? Who could have guessed?
Not how it works. Ferin are resistant to magical energies when applied directly to the body. The Paladin was just manifesting physical magical constructs around Falst body, which he has no resistance to. His unexplored connection to Light Magic allows him to disrupt the bonds.
The magical resistance should help against these hardlight constructs about as much as it would help against a stone mage encasing Falst in a boulder.
i admire falsts loyalty but dainix wont get that :[
Lol, Falst’s expression in the first panel
“Fist of Fury is about to be deployed” expression.
For mobile readers.
Alt-Text: also hi thanks for saving my life and stuff ANYWAY

Thanks. Server errors kept my comments from going through.
Tumblr text: un-splitting this party one dramatic rescue at a time
Bluesky text: oh so there WAS a plan
Hmm we’ll see if the spellbird actually identifies dainix, if yes, then that’ll be the he chills out ig, if not, then who the hell knows what’s gonna happen. And also I’m pretty sure that Erin being debilitated by casting magic is gonna have some long lasting effects, like after this escape is done and they get to helm, they’ll be pretty battered and underpowered I’m assuming which will be a perfect time for some shrike person to come in and ambush them. I know this is far fetched but I’m just running the calculations. So far, arc 2 has been perfect in literally every aspect and especially this chapter
Tess: Oww. Did you not just hear me about the shouting?
Falst: Did you not just hear me about the volcano?!
Tess: Hmph. (mimicking Falst) “Oh, thank you for rescuing me Tess, from the bottom of my heart. And my you sure look lovely in a single strap.” (back to her) Why thank you Falst! It’s just something I threw together while I was being blown apart.
Recten? More like “Get Wrecked-In”! Amiright? What a takedown, the expressions in panel 1, the fluid motion of the punch, and cool pose with Falst’s Light-fire hand to top it all off. Tess is impressed by it too, and if she’s taking notes she may have clocked Falst’s uncanny ability to break Light magic. There could now be two people in the gang who suspect his powers.
That spellbird won’t reach Dainix since he’s underwater, and magic-savvy Falst would know that if he was thinking clearly, but he isn’t. Meanwhile Tess looks rough; how badly bruised must you be for them to show on metal skin? It’s great that they’ve reunited, but I don’t see how these two can help the others in their current state.
Most they could do is use that messenger crystal and try to convince the Paladins to fall back due to the volcano, but they’re just as likely to assume their goodwill is some kind of ploy.
Awww, I wanted to make the “get (w)Recked” joke :p Watching that guy get decked in the face was EXACTLY what I wanted to see.
I love this page so much y’all! Its got that really pretty fire effect on Falst’s hand in panel three, and its so sweet! “This message is for Dainix”. Not Erin, not Kendal, not Alinua, who is also unaccounted for, but Dainix. Gotta make sure your boy is okay! (not gonna lie there was a good amount of rolling around and teamed the noises when I saw this page)
ough Tess
Is her eye okay? Are we going to have another one-eyed member temporarily?
What happened to our girls shoulder!?
That’s where her scar from being “chosen by the sky” is. It might be a consequence of the sheer amount of Lightning she used blowing up the cave entrance earlier.
It seems like she took the landing from blowing open a hole pretty hard…
Yeeeeah, I’m not sure a being of pure fire needs to exhale…and (one of) the entire point of going underwater was that the spellbirds wouldn’t be able to track exhalations. However, given that our Magus is currently chilling in a little ice cavern, a spellbird *might* reach him.
Tess is looking pretty banged up, but cheerful! Clearly a landscape-rearranging impact isn’t enough to keep her down.
If water blocks exhalations, ice does too, as it’s an aspect.of water. So both bubble bros are unreachable by spellbird, which was a big part of the plan… Wonder if Falst was already freaking out so much he wasn’t listening fully to that part, or has forgotten in his panic
Really hope there’s another downtime arc planned for after this. Alinua’s the only one who hasn’t gotten blown up or ragdolled recently and she still needs to de-fish. And that’s not even mentioning the psychological scars induced over the last few chapters. Then again, how far away is their destination of Hollowsong? We might have a very ragged party for a while yet.
“you should really hang onto one of those messenger things. it’d make everyone’s life a lot easier, except of course mine” Just a note that the video YouTube most often recommends rewatching is Trope Talk: Those Dang Phones
Heck yeah Falst broke out! I am highly satisfied to see the racist Recten marked unconscious. Tess is looking rough, though, presumably from setting off that massive explosion.
That messenger bird seemed like a good idea… and then I realized Dainix and Erin are underwater where that spell can’t find them, and even if it ordinarily could, Crucible Dainix does not breathe. But I suppose Falst wouldn’t know that they already went underwater, nor that Dainix had to turn full Crucible. And Kendal is just as unreachable, except when Vros is headbutting him up like a hackey sack… and Alinua’s location is unknown to the rest of the cast, and presumably also still beneath the sea. Hrm.
I love Tess so much <3
These two getting time together, too? We are treated well!
If you argue with a volcano, it’s kinda a one sided battle.
This and next page will likely be how Falst learns literally everyone else is underwater right now. Loved the faces on this page! Also, this explains why Falst was sneaking around a Paladin squad. He wanted to snatch their wind lacrima to warn/find his friends. Good plan.
Tess: Im sorry the island is what?
Hmm… Another minor manifestation of Falst’s suspected Light magic?
I know Ferin are more resistant, and that it’s probably just some of the soldier’s magic clinging to his hand as it fades. But wouldn’t it seem logical that to be able to rip apart the spell he would need to be able to grip it, and therefore would need to manifest his own magic in order to provide that ability to manipulate it as if it were a tactile object, especially since it’s not his spell?
