THis whole Guild is really a revolving door of repeating each others mistakes. Though our boys could have stood to waited a few more seconds before breaking out.
I’m not sure Dainix is capable of waiting right now. He was already cracking on the last page. Got that thalassophobia, and Erin may have been able to hold on to his air bubble but channeling more is only going to hurt him further.
Dragon hubris at its finest. I hope Kendal knocks the stuffing out of the other proudboi at least, but I expect Red will surprise me next week as well.
Stefan: Why has it taken you so long to report back? Have you seen the Magus? Calian: (nervously) Well … ah … have you ever seen “The Boy in the Iceberg” by Pu-on Tim?
I like how the Paladin’s dragons are characters in their own right and not just fancy mounts and buses; gives proper respect to fantasy dragons and allows for moments like this.
Holding back on reporting to attack by themselves, considering falsifying reports, and note how they say “Stefan”, not “Lord Stefan”. Tam, dragons, the most powerful members of the Paladin army also seem to be the least disciplined.
Prediction for next week: Crucible time! But I’m 50/50 on whether Calian will notice them melting the iceberg or not.
If so, a fight is inevitable. Dainix may be out of his element and against a dragon, but a flaming warrior underwater is the last thing Calian would expect. The bright light from Dainix in the dark ocean alone may disorientate them.
If not, Dainix and Erin will have a short breather before Calian likely comes back with reinforcements. Use that time to salvage, or escape?
I know this is unrelated, but I wonder what erin said to tam in 2.3.6. The expressions on the page are great and I know it doesn’t have to be the reactiont to what erin said but yea, I wonder when that’ll come up. Just re read the comic, and man, it’ll always be in my heart as top tier as ATLA 🙂
Pfff I love Calian and their expressions in the bottom panels.
I think I agree with Evil Tree’s prediction: that firelight looks like a sign of Crucible Time, though theoretically it could be Erin pushing himself to use more fire as well. (Jeez. The poor guy. Wishing him a long rest soon.)
I’m not sure what’s going to happen next. I could see the possibility of Calian not noticing them escape the iceberg, the paladins thinking Erin’s dead, and the floof squad using the cover of Erin’s presumed death to get away. Unfortunately, I think it more likely that Stefan would want to double check for a body and confirm… in which case, that cover would be short-lived. But a short-lived cover is better than no cover at all. I’m tentatively leaning toward Erin and Dainix having a very short-term cover to search for the salvage… Maybe with Alinua’s help? If she finds them? She’s water adapted right now! She’d be excellent for this!
I could also see the Crucible being so bright and noticeable that Calian notices and turns back to fight. Or, heck, the Crucible being so frantic and upset that it goes after Calian. If it goes that route, they’re in for a bear of a time, and they’re in bad condition. I would tentatively lean toward the short-term cover possibility as more likely for the sake of moving the narrative forward.
They’ve got to get out of this mess somehow… eventually…
Well we already know that Rakan is on the verge of going off. A dragon v. Crucible battle in the depths is likely to tick off the Wyrm. I think the slow cold war between the Volcano and the Ocean is about to turn hot with the Paladins and our Heroes in the middle.
The only time you can be certain that you “got” your enemy is when you are in front of their dead body. Almost everybody falls into the smoke and BS of “sure nobody would survive that”.
The big thing that these paladins haven’t clued in on yet is that Erin is *not* the most powerful of the party. No one has a clear claim on that title.
Someone might be the most powerful in particular circumstances, and they are all very powerful (though one of them has not yet unlocked his potential)
Erin might not be the most powerful, but he’s probably the most versitile(I doubt I spelled that corectly), maybe not right now with 4 of his elemental links too dangerous to use, but most of the time he is.
Calian has the same energy as when my dog works so hard to tear the squeaker out of a toy, and then I have to take it away before they EAT the liberated squeaker.
That last panel gives off the same vibes as the prologue of Pokemon 2000, where Lawrence III encases Fire Island in ice to wake up/provoke/lure out Moltres. Maybe something from that movie?
Okay so I actually wrote out the starts for some piano music themed around Aurora’s main cast just for fun a while back and Dainix’s was basically some E minor arpeggios going up and down and climbing up the keyboard with different chord extensions. None of that probably means anything to you but hey.
I thought either “Ancient” or “Ghast” by Peter Hont, leaning towards the first one because it sounds more dignified and Baroque, but the second one really tells more of a story with the crude tones transitioning into a sweeping piano melody.

Yep, you definitely got him. Definitely.
Sorry, Calian is TOO REAL. I love them. 100% ‘Bad Dog Who Ate All Your Furniture While You Were Out’ Energy.
Yes, Exactly! He even made that exact face in panel 5 XD
He was so scary on the last page, and now he’s suddenly adorable. He’s such a big puppy XD
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: now pardon me while I take a reeeeeally long sip

Tumblr text: see you on Monday!
Bluesky text: fire and ice
So… “gimme some sip?”
I know next page is gonna be so dang awesome!!
Crucible Mode! INCOMING!!
Oh my god, Calian is fucking hilarious. Dont’ worry, bud, I’m sure you’ll have a bit more fun in just a moment. XD
Not only overconfident, but careless. Such free-spirited and willful beings are not suited for a life of service.
Why do I get such a strong feeling that this dragon is a teenage member of their species?!
It does give off that sort of impression xD
“This is my very first field mission and I wanna prove I’m capable–”
“…Oops.”

This dragon is hilarious. And oblivious

You certainly did, Calian. All according to plan.
I can HEAR the muffled electric guitar!
Aw look at those eyes, who could ever stay mad at those?
I wish to pet this creature
Hey, OSP!Red, the linking is blocked – page 2.7.26 doesn’t have the next page button, so you can’t get from it to page 2.7.27.
This whole panel just reminds me of Toothless from the HTTYD books and all the mischief he got up to

Also, can someone please explain what MIA means?
Missing in action
Awww, poor widdle sad dwagon! Pwey no pway! 🙁

Any thoughts on what Dainix’s boss theme should be? Slowly swelling in volume, until it surges as he bursts from the ice…
I have zero musical sense, so I’ve no clue.

And hey, they’re both in E minor!
