. Alinua reaches down toward what looks like a clump of long moss, waving in the current. She grabs it, trying to pull it out of the sand.
. “The person you think did this…” Selach asks, “Should we be worried?”
. “That she’ll come back? I don’t think so,” Alinua says as she yanks on the moss. “If the others are right about the timeline, then she tried here before she attacked Vash. And that time, she got what she was looking for.”
. “Oh,” Selach says, turning away. “That’s good. Or… really bad, I guess.” She glances back as Alinua’s pulling unearths something pale green, attached to the moss.
. “Yeah,” Alinua mutters. She holds up the decapitated head of one of the Collector’s chimeras, its dense green mane clutched in her hand. She looks at it in concern and disgust. “ ‘Really bad’ sounds about right.”
Dun dun DUN
I’ve been tired from Social Contact lol, thats why I missed the last two
If anyone wants to do this if I miss it, they’re free to, I’m completely fine with that (:
I watched the first Dune movie for the first time last night! it was SO GOOD and WOW. Can’t wait to watch the second one
You know, I still had my reservations at the Wyrm because the bear in Gleicann also had multiple tongues. …but that’s literally the Collector’s dogs if they were fish instead. That girl has one artstyle and sticks to it no matter the material she’s given.
Why not both? And I’d say Alinua could indeed lay claim to the title of “Princess” – she’s functionally the daughter of a the Primordial Life (not just in the sense that every living thing arguably is, but that she’s been directly marked with the chimeric plague and made it through it). I don’t know if she can glide though, but to be fair I don’t think we’ve ever seen her in a dress, so maybe she could? Although I suspect if she fell from really, really high, Life might restructure her body so she can (shedding mass – I’d feel sorry for anyone below her, getting random bits of elf rained down on them – and growing some gliding surfaces like a flying squirrel or similar, perhaps).
Wait a minute …
Created via godly shenanigans with no consent, ambiguously a princess (I mean for all we know she may literally be one, does the Flying Archipelago have royalty?), hidden birth parents, abandoned as an infant, happily adopted, disappears for 10+ years, has the backing of their patron god and multiple others, fights monsters, and has an ever lengthening list of feats.
… Is Alinua a Greek hero?
There we have it, confirmation the Collector was here, and that Alinua knows what a Collector chimera looks like; they were besieging Vash for quite some time, so it’s understandable that she saw at least one during that.
“That she’ll come back? I don’t think so.” Remember back in 2-2-19 when Kendal got an ominous warning of “She’s Coming”, and how Collie was able to track them to Zuurith? I’m a little fearful Alinua may be proven wrong here.
“And that time, she got what she was looking for”. I like Alinua’s wording, shows that she’s still considering the possibility that the Collector didn’t get the Wyrm’s soul. She’s considered the worst case scenario, as that’s the only scenario the gang has even known, but won’t give up until she finds out for sure.
About that warning of “she’s coming” maybe it had nothing to do with the Collector directly maybe it was the Northern Wyrm warning Kendal about the sea serpent.
I still wonder who’s voice that was, when I first read it I thought it was the ghost’s of the people of Vash because it was depicted as a bunch of reaching arms and I guess it reminded me of them but other people said it was Vash because Kendal had spoken to Vash in his sleep before, but maybe it was the Northern Wyrm and she was keeping track of her mutated body and trying to find someone nearby who could hear her and found Kendal and warned him of the Wyrm’s oncoming attack, maybe as a disembodied soul she heard about Kendal through Argist when he consulted the higher gods but could only convey a few words?
For some reason I can’t help but read a bit too much into that warning.
Thanks, @Evil Tree I’ve been trying to forget the fish heads songs since I heard it on Dr. Demento lo many years ago. Now it is merrily dancing in the back of head again. I blame the Collector for that earwig.
Don’t compare Alinua to a Greek hero, it will just give Red more ideas for trials for poor elf! Not that is necessarily a bad thing but it means more hell before things get better for the poor dear!
I hope Primordial Life can give Alinua a few clues what to do next!
It’s cool Alina was able to sus out the chimera head — I’m guessing it was through Life’s influence or like a Life Vessel spidey sense since I’m not sure she ever saw one before (or maybe she did but just not with the Collector in toe) — and I still love the demogorgon-coding of the Collector’s chimeras <3
Imagine your a farmer before vash happened and you find an awfully weird weed in your field, “what the heavens is this, that’s hairy for a weed *plucks the “weed”*, hmmm…hey martha! Is this vegan or what?”
I mean… if they get out of there quick enough then yeah, there’s probably no reason for the merpeople to be worried about a return trip from out creepy Chimera Gal.
Kendal however? please be worried. please be very worried my guy. you’ve got a big storm coming, and this one isn’t a chump named Tynan.
welp guess we have confirmation now
For mobile readers.

Bluesky Text: we’re sleuthin’!
i’m gonna make a salad out of this and y’all can’t stop me
I don’t want to stop you. I just want some once you’re done.

The Collector has been stuck with Same Face Syndrome in her work this whole time XD
That look on Alinua’s face perfectly represents how disgusting the little slimy seaweed chimera dudes would feel to the touch.
right?! im imagining like, pulling hair outta the shower drain levels of gross rn
There are no finger prints deep under water. Nothing to link one to a crime.
And if you seek vengence,
All you need are instruments of pain.
Wait, is that a tongue on sea radish?!
“You found a chimera head? Gross! Throw it out!”
If that’s a radish, does that make Alinua a princess? *throws Radish at a goomba*
And if you know what I am talking about, you are either a fellow old, or a serious geek who likes NES games.

… Is Alinua a Greek hero?
Is it just me or does the plant look mutated? Otherwise why is she pulling it out?
that’s not a plant, it’s a decapitated chimera head. the planty-looking part is what’s left of its mane.
I didn’t realize until reading your comment that it was decapitated. I just thought it was a fish with a big head and soft, wavy body.
Fish heads, fish heads, roly-poly fish heads.

It almost looks like the Wyrm fought back- not only is the chimera decapitated, but its head is *stuck in the rock*
I think it was just buried in rubble

The first of the collector’s chimeras we saw were from 1.1.5
Imagine your a farmer before vash happened and you find an awfully weird weed in your field, “what the heavens is this, that’s hairy for a weed *plucks the “weed”*, hmmm…hey martha! Is this vegan or what?”
Welp, guess that confirms it. I wonder if the Collector couldn’t get that tasty worm soul and had to mutate it in self defense
I mean… if they get out of there quick enough then yeah, there’s probably no reason for the merpeople to be worried about a return trip from out creepy Chimera Gal.

That is one nasty radish.
Finally caught up to everything and Ineedmoreineedmoreineedmoreraaaahhhhhhh
He’s blepping
Because that nut case was behind this.
I realize this is for clarity but kneeling on the seafloor stairs up silt bad diving etiquette Aliuna.
Wow Ali found a new species of radish
Do you even need to wear gloves underwater? I mean, your hands are constantly being washed anyway lol
Even Aurora is full of bad news today…
Kinda off topic, but I love the water effects in the water :3
Welp, you plant that and grow a new Kthulu!
Why wear gloves when regrowing skin is so much cheaper? XD
There are no fingerprints deep under water
Nothing to tie one to a crime
And if you seek vengeance
All you need are instruments of pain
Murmaider, mumaider, murmaider!
Wow, finally caught up! Guess I’m reading this along with the rest of you now 😀
Ah. Oh dear. That’s not good, is it.
