To me it almost looks like Goope le Grande is somehow taking over or consuming Ali’s magic. Makes sense, what with the whole Voidhammer thing and Void being the element of consumption
I figure like electromagnetism impacts ours. It’s a part of the natural laws of their world, after all. Then again, some people being able to directly control parts of it’ll be a right spanner in the works on occasion! Gotta safeguard that stuff so just anyone can’t break whatever the heck important mechanisms they want – maybe soulcrystal shielding around the inner workings of machines?
@Question Master I wonder if it’s slowed down technological development? Because why invent a complex and fallible war machine when you can just throw a fireball at them? Or electrocute them? Why risk a patient’s life with new medical treatments when you can just have a life mage heal them? Why study the ground when you 𝘬𝘯𝘰𝘸 what’s going on with it? Why study the stars when the guy sitting next to you can 𝘴𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘧 with barely more than a thought? Obviously some people are still going to study and develop these things, but it will be less people overall than in our world.
I feel like there’s a difference between “why invent guns when you can throw fireballs” and “why study the stars when some guy can crack the ground”. I feel like in the Auroraverse people might be MORE likely to study the stars since that’s where the living beings that turned into their planet came from (and stars are something different from they are in our world, since they very much all *move* on their *own* from night to night). And why study the ground because you know what it’s made of? They’re not all Toph, they know what it’s made of BECAUSE they’ve studied it (with the extra help of various magics). Why risk a patient’s life with new medical treatments when you can have a life mage heal them – why risk a patient’s life with LIFE MAGIC when you can use treatments anyone can learn that don’t have a risk of chimerism?
I feel like, because magic leaves different options available to them, their technology would advance in a very different direction than it has on earth (especially because I’m… not certain electricity works the same way, so any more recent electrical tech couldn’t turn up the exact same) but I don’t think it would be SLOWED just because it’s the product of a different world with different things to need technology for. And mages existing doesn’t make people generally incurious (which it kinda felt like your comment was getting into, apologies if that wasn’t what you meant) – there’s plenty of people studying magic and elemental influence, and the gods, and the anatomy of Stone, and the creations of the Twins, and there’s also a lot of people studying architecture and history and textiles and astronomy and agriculture and all the things that have led to advancements of all kinds in the real world.
Sorry I wasn’t super clear, by that line I was trying to get into there being more things to study that affect you right now. You make good points though.
If in Sci-Fi “sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic” (A.C. Clarke) then in fantasy sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from technology
I think more that the existence of lacrimas are elemental technology. Wind lacrimas instead of texting/voicemail. Lightning for flashlights or streetlamps, fire in place of a stove/range. They are useful, compact tools which allow those who otherwise have little to no ability with elemental magic to use magic as part of everyday life. We just don’t have big factories churning them out by the hundreds in this world. Yet.
Certain plant diseases can make them go mushy without looking like they’re doing so. Then when you touch it, it falls apart. Happened to my mom’s jade plant a while back–she has lots of cuttings, though, so it still technically lives on.
Certain insect diseases also do this. Not fun when you’re raising caterpillars and one catches it.
Y’know, I… don’t remember that tree’s name! It was ages ago! But I WAS naming my plants back then, and “Jeff” DOES sound similar to some names I’ve doled out, so… ^^
Anonymous Aurora Question #20: What do you think June is doing right now? Bonus Question: If Shrike and Trusk were here, how do you think they would fight GOH?
A.A.Q #20: Does being mad at Erin count? Given it’s only been a few hours since the Tynan fight she’s probably still in Zuurith/ at the Archive (if it survived) unless the Light Dragon specifically directed her elsewhere.
B.Q.: Ineffectively, we know physical melee attacks are at best an annoyance for it and somehow I don’t think that manacles would be particularly effective against a plie of goop
June probably has a predetermined place (or places in order of preference) to go. I’m sure we’ll see her again, and it may be a surprise in some stronghold somewhere.
There once was a mage of life
Whose magic in the ground was rife.
But now it’s been highjacked,
The glort has attacked
And they’re in for even more strife.
TL;DR: So, if a computer bug interrupts usual computer processes, and a bug (disease) interrupts usual human processes, then is this slime thing some sort of… magic bug?
Fuck if I know? It is important that we get good data, maybe our focus on what it “looks” like is why it is hard to perceive? Like trying to smell roses or well what if it is entirely cognitive and occupies the same “space” as “God” or I defer but there is a shit metric ton of Data on that hot mess, no I do not KNOW, also I am cagey, you really think I am at the bottom of my bag? maybe mine does have a hole in the bottom and I reach through it into the Whole;
Trash, I look around my temple and, no, we aren’t going to do that, it’s hard, it hurts, the seals will tell you about basic, others can tell you about hell night the point? of the indoctrination is that internally the shit you experience is disorientating, (yeah I can’t remember not living in the eye of a hurricane maybe) so was I conditioned to be ready for the pseudoappocalypse? muscle memory is the lesser you hacks, it’s always been about the flame & the void? I do run REALLY hot and pretty cold;
So I know the alt-text is a joke but upon reading “Erin invents the elevator” it greatly peaked my curiosity and I went back and examined the arena in Zuurith through all of the pages it appeared to look for elevators ala the Colosseum of Rome and apparently there are none, so it would seem that Erin did actually invent it here
Analogy Corner:
R𝐨ckf𝓪ces r𝐮shing by str𝗲tch o𝐮t like a str𝗲et, rhythmic𝓪lly illumin𝓪ted by occ𝓪sional l𝐢ghts in a d𝐢zzying d𝓪nce of str𝓪ight lin𝗲s and p𝓪rticles.
Third time’s the charm? After two failed attempts in two days, I suspect something about that sentence is getting my comment blocked. So I’ve replaced a whole bunch of letters with those “fancy text” symbols. It looks perfectly readable NOW (sorry to screen readers though, should hopefully still be kinda decipherable), but idk if it’ll get through posting unscathed. Or even show up at all, for that matter. Oh well, here goes nothing!
The glort comes out, and Alinua fights it
And the stone is uplifted by our pompous nitwit
Also can Ali manipulate Glort? Or what is she doing there in 7?
To me it almost looks like Goope le Grande is somehow taking over or consuming Ali’s magic. Makes sense, what with the whole Voidhammer thing and Void being the element of consumption
Seems to me like she’s fighting it for control over her plants, actually
I contest nitwit, but also; fair ’nuff
Hot damn Gloop went FAST o,o
BAD GLOOP!
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: in this exciting episode, erin invents the elevator

I really like the effect of the palms of Alinua’s hands glowing! Also, this reminds me of that time my palm tree liquefied. Fun times!
Your Palm Tree what
It became goop! Very sad.
Your palm tree melted and became an Aurora Villain?
How did that happen?
Your palm tree rotted? Into goop? While retaining a root system strong enough to keep it standing?
…
Impressive.
i’m sorry it what
how does a palm tree LIQUIFY?!
Certain plant diseases can make them go mushy without looking like they’re doing so. Then when you touch it, it falls apart. Happened to my mom’s jade plant a while back–she has lots of cuttings, though, so it still technically lives on.

Was its name Jeff by any chance?
Y’know, I… don’t remember that tree’s name! It was ages ago! But I WAS naming my plants back then, and “Jeff” DOES sound similar to some names I’ve doled out, so… ^^
your palm tree got glorted too, dang
Are plants an extension of Alinua when they are imbued in her magic? Was she about to get a case of the Vietnam’s?
I wonder if the blob is actually taking over just the plants or corrupting the life magic itself.
Ah, so she can’t just turn all the sludge into Spanish Moss.
huh, i never thought about ali’s eyelashes lol. but the eye close up is pretty
Ditto
Oh I saw that as an effect of the goop

what even IS that thing anyways? hope Erin has some insightful remarks about it
glort
Man this was supposed to be the DOWN TIME
There once was a mage of life
Whose magic in the ground was rife.
But now it’s been highjacked,
The glort has attacked
And they’re in for even more strife.
There is so much emotion in their eyes all the time!!!!!

“in this exciting episode, Erin invents the elevator”
Just don’t over-do-it and invent the space elevator.
Yeet!
Got to save something for the season finale? No, that is not a spoiler, I don’t think?
I think my putting the link to another aurora page instead of a song link is Meta?
Holy shit glort can do that. Okay then. Looks like it’s time for The Horrors again.
lets hope this elevator doesn’t become like the one from charlie and the chocolate factory…
With everything going on I’m very glad that Kendal and Tess decided to come and rescue everyone because I think there going to need it.
So I know the alt-text is a joke but upon reading “Erin invents the elevator” it greatly peaked my curiosity and I went back and examined the arena in Zuurith through all of the pages it appeared to look for elevators ala the Colosseum of Rome and apparently there are none, so it would seem that Erin did actually invent it here
Holding on to WHAT? I didn’t see any handles on the flat surface of that platform.
Still a bit worried about Falst’s tail.
Did Erin invent an elevator or a lift? I think he’d say lift.

Hello Cast, so cat, I imagine you are not of my generation?
I dunno!
a random guy from a different comic’s comment section convinced me to read this, I regret nothing 😀
Welcome to our fandom!
Hi!!!
Hello and welcome!
Oh no it discovered fiber!
OH NO
*Erin starts humming elevator music faster*
The shirtless duo is rescued!
