Okay, so, I was bored today and actually went back through the entire comic and counted them all, then ran stats. The top ten (in order) most used onomatopoeia are: Crack, Crick, Wham, Snap, Shff, Whizt, Pop, Thud, Whoosh, and Tap.
I suspect “Fwoosh” and “Fwoom” were not on the list as they are used interchangeably in similar contexts. The “pop” and “snap” are heavily weighted towards the giant-spider-exploding Chapter 20 (which also had the largest number of onomatopoeia per chapter), and “tap” comes almost solely from Chapter 14, where Erin’s bird message from Tess taps on the rooftop of the archive 13 TIMES. In total, the comic has used 923 onomatopoeia, with 293 different words.
I’m willing to share other stats as asked (because I totally didn’t spend my afternoon distracted and doing this ;>.>)
Standing near ze point does nussing. Get ON ze point, dummkopf!
I’m still loving the geometric nature and slow but sure movement of stone magic; when it’s not being used to yank arrow shafts imbedded in Falst’s wrist, it’s pretty cool. I wonder if stone magic elevators are used elsewhere in the world.
Oh? Erin can physically sense proximity to the caves? Makes sense with V.D. ready to take any opportunity he can to escape. After they get the boys out they must either get as far away from here as possible or collapse this breach. I’m betting on the second as that would also prevent the glort and any cave crawlers following them too.
V.D. is being kept at bay, Alinua is conscious and in control, and the boys are making their way to the platform. Yet I still find myself holding my breath; they’re not out of the woods yet and I get the feeling Kendal and Tess’s arrival will be timely and necessary.
This whole arc has been really cool and interesting. The two bruisers (The big guy and the lancer) went off on an adventure and are having the fight of their lives. The two spellcasters (The Smart one and the Heart) are both weaving their powers together to literally tear the earth apart to rescue their idiot friends. And the two most durable people (Leader and White ranger) have both been chilling out, being introspective and are (probably) about to get themselves into shenanigans
White Ranger is usually called the Sixth Ranger, an additional teammate that joins a five-man band and doesn’t fit a preexisting category in the team. You can actually have multiple Sixth Rangers, which can change the trope that the group fulfills entirely. Although not particularly in this case, they can often have a power and coolness factor that is inverse to the amount of time since their introduction to the team, before falling in line as they get slowly integrated into the group. In fact, they almost tend to become a magnet for The Worf Effect so the writers can show off how powerful the new villain is. Sixth Rangers have a lot more freedom within their role in the party since they rarely fit a role within the power trio or five-man band tropes. Many times, they tend to be a loner that the party picked up as a permanent member, and can often end up being the morally questionable teammate.
I would have called Tess the Strong Guy! Cause she and showed up before Danix and her whole deal is just hitting things REALLY hard. Danix on the other hand has the whole devil’s bargain/dangerous superpowers thing that makes his power more plot dependent and makes him something of a secondary foil for Erin. That’s just my two cents!
Anonymous Aurora Questione #16: What do you think would happen, if Jeff escaped and attcked a Major city, likes Asera or Zuurith? How would the evacuation work? Who would try to do What to stop home? Which main and side Characters would get involved?
Interesting question! Excuse me while I overanalyse what would happen from a monster design standpoint.
From what we’ve seen of Jeff so far, they seem to be a high durability, low intelligence creature, favouring ambush tactics against a single target.
Devastating in a 1v1 encounter especially with surprise on its side due to its eyes and regeneration / durability, but able to be easily distracted and outmanoeuvred due to its low speed and seeming lack of crowd control. Also more effective in confined spaces due to its lack of ranged attacks.
If it just started glooping towards the nearest city to go on a rampage I’d say the threat would be fairly minimal – the obvious counter would be to have guards attract its attention with mid/long ranged attacks, then lead it away until you can figure out a way to kill or contain it. I’m assuming it has low enough intelligence to just go for the closest snack regardless of anything else going on.
In my eyes the actual threat posed by this creature would be decided almost entirely on how hard it is to actually kill. Assuming it’s not just invulnerable, in DND terms, I’d liken it to a Black Pudding – deadly to some commoners or isolated party members but not a city-ending threat like Tynan.
As for who would get involved, I’d imagine any city guards, resident mages with magic hazmat suits, and possibly even the city deity depending on their personality (since their avatar is arguably more powerful and more disposable than important mortals – they can always make another avatar).
If you meant ‘whom’ does what and where then ***DANGER- Wall of Text below!!!*** I would expect no matter what the entire Floof Squad would be dragged by the Godly Boy Scout- Kendal to save the unsuspecting countryside, city, town, village farmstead, or band of travelers who Jeff finds to prey on (its just what Do-gooders do).
If Jeff went to Zuurith I would expect Zuurith, Shrike (who definitely has many fans in the commentary) Trusk (who I like as a foil to Shrike’s brilliant hunter expert aspect) to act either as aids if friendly or foes if Zuurith is backsliding to re-opening his Arena. I expect June (J.A.) would be gone from Zuurith(city), by this time.
I would expect Kendal to provide moral nudging to he gang while Erin would doing analasis and magic applications, Alinua and Tess would provide intuition and emotional support (to their ties of kinship or experiences respectively), Dainix would provide good tactical suggestions and strategies, and familiarity with group dynamics. Falst would be a good scout and scounger but a reluctant guide to strangers requiring some coaxing by others. Both Tess and Dainix would have logistical and group information and all could provide unigue firepower opinions. Erin, Dainix and even Tess and Falst might have unique contacts to draw upon.
I would expect Jeff would have unique solutions to deal with terrain, walls, closed spaces and special tactics too (for ambushes, movement and defense or escapes).
In Asera there may be special groups Erin would need to escape or hide from.
Fascinating that Erin doesn’t need to cast a spell with spinning runes for this. Does that mean stone magic works differently, or does it mean *his* stone magic is somehow different? More natural for him? (Yes, I’m still hanging onto my Erin is a DIY Elemental Magus theory until proven otherwise.)
I’m pretty sure that you don’t NEED the runes (If my memory serves, Shrike didn’t seem to use them for her stone magic), it’s just that Erin’s usually too much of a perfectionist to not use them, but in the words of Alinua, sometimes time is of the essence. Plus, stone’s like his mom’s magic so it would make sense for him to be used to it.
I think it’s less to do with working differently and more to do with risk. Life magic is notoriously risky to use with all the body horror possible, so Erin uses a runic circle every time for safety. Stone magic used on the ground, and not people, is much safer so a safety runic circle isn’t necessary. If he was doing something more complex with stone magic I bet he would use a circle, but if it’s just moving some rocks, earth, or metal from point A to point B, there’s no need for one.
in no particular order, the void dragon begins to emerge, crustables get on the platform as it lifts out of the caves, Erin’s concentration is broken, Tess and Kendal show up, Kendal being there discourages voidy/distracts Aluina & Erin.

Aurora Question #90: Which onomatopoeia is the most used in the comic so far?
probably “crack” or some variant of “fwoosh”
Honestly they’re all used heavily, Red loves to write big sound effects
Considering the amount of broken bones so far, I’m gonna go with “Crack”
I agree with thenoodlegod.

Wow I respect the dedication to stats
CRAAAAAAAAAAAAACK
My money’s on “Shaa”
we love aluina’s matching vines and eyes, and the fact i can never pronounce her name lmao
Alinua is channeling a freaking primordial power, of course her eyes glow like arc lights! (shakes head)
maybe he is fine, but those are some suspiciously Void-Dragon effect lines around his ears in panel 2

I can’t remember the arrowhead incident—do you recall which page it was?

The Caves are near, are monsters near too?
On a platform there will only fit a few
Misuse of life magic may include:
-exploding
-existential crises
-losing a nose
Bahahahaha, I noticed that too.
Climb on, losers, we’re getting outta here!
Living for the efficiency here. Just two immensely powerful magic besties putting in the Work
Aight, who wants to bet that the glort is gonna grab that floating platform as soon as it starts moving?
Tenser’s floating disc looks a lot cooler when you have to shape the earth to make it.

Ah, right, Shrike didn’t use runic casting at all for her stone magic.
That’s interesting–when did we learn stone was Erin’s mother’s magic?
I think it’s less to do with working differently and more to do with risk. Life magic is notoriously risky to use with all the body horror possible, so Erin uses a runic circle every time for safety. Right, so when Erin was combining water and wind, that was more subtle and complex, so required him to spin out a careful runic circle.
in no particular order, the void dragon begins to emerge, crustables get on the platform as it lifts out of the caves, Erin’s concentration is broken, Tess and Kendal show up, Kendal being there discourages voidy/distracts Aluina & Erin.
does anyone think that the void dragon will ever help willingly? like in a villilante kinda way.
