It’s interesting that the starfire seems to spark more the more agitated Kendal is. Dainix’s words from Ch. 13 come to mind now. On some level, Kendal is rejecting his emotions, viewing them as impediments when they aren’t necessarily.
I think in order to fully activate the sword’s Starfire Mode, he’ll need to acknowledge his emotions and use them as a conduit for the starfire.
Kendal: No! Run AWAY! Not towards!
Good to see Tynan can still defend himself while mid-incarnating; neatly counters the “just attack while they’re transforming” plot hole if the one transforming can fight back any attempt.
@Mat I think you could be onto something, Vash certainly wasn’t emotionless when he was defending his city and activated the starfire. Dainix needs to remind him of that advice and help guide him; with how it’s looking they’ll need all types of fire at 100% if they hope to win.
Don’t be too worried Alinua, both Kendal and Tess are pretty sturdy. Besides, if Tynan is adopting a larger, slower, form then your binding vines/trees moves might become more viable than they were in his humanoid form.
Prediction for next week: The shadow over Erin gives me the impression Tynan is starting to solidify his new body and will need 80-100% of Monday’s page space to display his full, terrible glory.
i can’t even make out what’s happening, but the two heavy melee units just got YEETed by… something? Alinua will make sure they’re okay, but that just leaves Tall, Short, and Articulate to deal with phase 2, effectively cutting the party in half
i think it just became a lot more likely that V.D. is going to make an appearance this chapter, judging from the look in Erin’s eye, and his whole “i need more power to protect my friends” thing he’s had going on recently
And Kendal is thrown aside by Tynan
As he screams to his friends to “RUN!”
Alinua screams out “Kendal”, Erin looks in fear
As all their hopes are undone.
Does anybody know what has happened with Hello Haiku?
Agh, I can’t tell if Erin has the “oh my god he’s so huge why are we doing this” look or the “you just hurt my sister and one of my best friends, prepare for the beating of your lifetime” look in his eyes. Either way, like everyone else has said, I’m sure VD will make an appearance at some point!
@GoodbyeBallad: Not sure. Hopefully they’re okay, maybe they just broke their device, or they’re at a summer(spring?) camp with no connection.
I predict we’re going to flash back briefly to when Erin and Tess were children, when something happened to her and there was nothing he could do about it. Maybe when they met or she sparked.
It’d be pretty hilarious if Tyran kind of rained himself out of power, eh? The gang does their work, they do something to wear him out, but it is mostly just him expending so much of his storm to be a big scary dragon that he literally just becomes a drizzle by the end of the night.
@veggiesnake
I agree
I remember thinking before that I was sure that Red was going to pull something that revealed the whole Void Dragon thing to all the paladins but the fight had been going so well that I wasn’t sure how she could pull it off
And well (gestures toward comic) as you said, half the party out plus the “I need to protect them” would probably do it.
@Ozymandias: Ah, a fellow Magic: the Gathering fan, I see. I’d say he’s like the opposite of Chandra. Chandra shoots fire all the time and gets very emotional, and Dainix keeps his under control and isn’t used to using fire.
I’d say maybe that were trying out a new name and forgot to mention it, but that seems very unlikely at this point, given that a) they’d have noticed people were concerned that they were missing and at that point continuing the charade would be rude, and b) they have an Established Comments Thing. Unfortunately, at this point we may have to operate under the policy of ,”hope for the best, expect the worst”…
To Evil Tree,:
I dunno, it looks a bit more like Voidy’s getting ready to make an apprarance–the way Erin’s eye-glow is fading is giving me “dying flame swallowed by the darkness” vibes here–and the way the shadows fall across his face is more than a little reminiscent of the way they fell the last time he was possessed…
Also, agree with you on the Kendal eye-glow thing being interesting. Sorry, I’m very tired right now and have a presentation coming up, my brain is not 100% Can I get back to you on that one?
Feel like these last two chapters have been super all over the place… why is erin suddenly the focus super special pivotal character in a fight with Vash’s past enemy in a city rhat was also Vash’s past enemy where Kendal barely got time alone with either… plus Dainix who’s been doing a whole arc in there on being able to unlock his power to kill god…. it’s been a while since ive read but im kinda thrown
DM: As Tynan uses his legendary action, a wave of fear washes over you. Everyone roll a wisdom save.
Erin: Ha! This’ll be– [rolls a 3]
DM: [smiles wickedly]
VD isn’t under Erin’s control by any means, so I don’t know how it would appear unless Erin faced certain death. Not even Life was willing to help with the current crisis. (I don’t quite buy that Life was trying to teach Alinua, btw, with that refusal. There seems to be a difference between gods and primordials. Gods take an interest in mortals partially because they draw their form and life energy in interdependence with mortals. Tynan needs mortals to fear him to gain strength, for example. But while the primordials take a vessel, they seem quite above and outside this interdependence, beyond concern about individual mortals. They take a vessel for their own purposes. They seem to be more like the Chinese idea of Gods, the Nade Emperor and so forth, where yes, the gods were powerful, but they had little interest in mere mortals.)
VD showing up would be frought and cool, but I think it’s Soulfire and Starfire that’s going to save the day.
That said, it looks like I was already wrong about the dragon from the chapter cover showing up at the end of the coming chapter, so….
I thought … did I see HelloHaiku mention finals and schoolwork and not being around for a bit?
OH. Oh, NO. Considering that Kendal survived a similarly brutal impact in chapter 8, I’m not too worried about his safety (yet)… but it looks like Tess got tail-slapped across the head for her to have been flipped upside down. Yes, she has metal skin, but what about her bones?
From the looks of the final panel, Tynan just pissed off the wrong person.
@TheUnknownGame i wouldn’t worry too much. this is a woman who travels by cross-continental lightning-jumps. plus i don’t see why her anatomy wouldn’t be metal all the way through, rather than just her skin. surely her skeleton and muscles would have to be a similarly dense material just to function under the weight of her skin? and she’s still a living being, so alinua can heal her anyway
I’m gonna predict what I think is gonna happen: Tynan has just transformed either into a larger version of himself or in some kind of storm dragon thing, Erin will then get super pissed that he hit his friend and his sister and lose control and the Void Dragon will come out, then white-haired paladin boy with the cool eyes is gonna sense the void dragon with the help of Lady White Dragon and will swoop in and try to attack Erin, paladin boy will then notice the huge ass storm dragon and help them
That towering shade is getting concerning though. I’m worried.
But @leapyeargirl96 and everyone else guessing VD is about to show up, wouldn’t Erin’s eyes be turning yellow in that case, not black? The Dragon has yellow eyes with black pupils, so my guess is that’s just the shadow. Tynan has definitely turned into some sort of dragon, so my guess is that he is the dragon on the cover art, because it would make sense for his eyes to shoot lightning.
But @Aymar and everyone else guessing VD is about to show up, wouldn’t Erin’s eyes be turning yellow in that case? The Dragon has yellow eyes with (gasp!) actual pupils, so I’m guessing that blackness is just the shadow of Tynan. I also think he might be the dragon on the cover art, since it’d make sense for his eyes to shoot lightning.
I just had a thought; maybe Erin’s look doesn’t herald rage, but despair. “All the power in the world, and I still can’t protect anyone”? He just watched his sister get smacked with potentially lethal force, and there was nothing he could do about it. If he doesn’t fly into a righteous fury, he’s likely to have an emotional breakdown. (Or perhaps both.)
You can always tell when the comic update is particularly spicy and rife with danger because Red will just say ‘See you on Monday!’, ready to watch us all lose our cool like dropping steak into a piranha tank.
I’m calling it now, Tynan isn’t going to be defeated until Red runs out of ideas for chapter titles about storms. We’re at four and counting… how many more can Red think of?
If VD does show up, consider this: VD has shown himself to be capable of commanding gods (the Twins) and possessing dragons as living representations of his truename. If Tynan is now taking on dragons form as people seem to think…
we might get both secondary antagonists in one body
@Icarus,
idk, but I just ⌘F’d every page up to start of Chapter 16 for “haiku” and read all the comments (Haiku’s and people replying to them), I didn’t see anything about that… that might’ve been someone else? Maybe should’ve checked for that instead. It’s very tedious to go through all the pages, though. I do hope they’re OK
i can’t tell if erin’s expression in the last panel is outrage or desperation or a combination of the two, but i think this works either way.
steps to completing a successful death:
1) attack/severly injure erin’s psuedo siblings
2) enjoy the last 3 seconds of your life, cause that’s all you have left
Well, somebody failed a roll.
Let’s see if Erin can figure out how to beat this. Maybe his anger will help.
Uh oh
Hey, Erin. Why don’t you make me a Charisma saving throw?
At… at least the sword’s doing the glowy thing, right? That’s probably good, right???
Well… Damn. This doesn’t look good.
Time for another “uh-oooh….”
Might be VD time. Ssso that’s one more “uh-oooh” from me then.
…Tess better be all right, you moody little squall of a tosser >:(
Kendal: No! Run AWAY! Not towards!

Well that’s ominous.
Did someone say “storm god fighting a dragon”?
Erin has some dragon vibes & Kendal’s eye now blue
Magic_Enyineer I get the feeling they will need alot more the anger to defete him.
YEET
i can’t even make out what’s happening, but the two heavy melee units just got YEETed by… something? Alinua will make sure they’re okay, but that just leaves Tall, Short, and Articulate to deal with phase 2, effectively cutting the party in half

TL;DR: Naughty little godling. You deserve a spanking. What? Mom doesn’t approve? Tough love.
And Kendal is thrown aside by Tynan
As he screams to his friends to “RUN!”
Alinua screams out “Kendal”, Erin looks in fear
As all their hopes are undone.
Does anybody know what has happened with Hello Haiku?
Tynan: You know what would be cool? Solid storms.
Erin: How bout i just kill you
also floofy lugia has wind powers did not expect that (‘_^)
(Yeah I know I’m a copycat, but cut me some slack I’m having fun!)
Watch the heroes be swept away
By a frightful shade they now must slay
Agh, I can’t tell if Erin has the “oh my god he’s so huge why are we doing this” look or the “you just hurt my sister and one of my best friends, prepare for the beating of your lifetime” look in his eyes. Either way, like everyone else has said, I’m sure VD will make an appearance at some point!

GoodbyeBallad: No clue, and at this point I’m starting to worry. Maybe they went camping and there’s no internet? Seems unlikely.
As a fellow poet (but only when I’m supposed to do schoolwork), I sure hope someone isn’t going around targeting us…
I wonder what Erin is seeing in that last panel
It turned into a dragon, I’m calling it now
@veggiesnake
I agree

Dainix= Chandra, awakened inferno
@Ozymandias: Ah, a fellow Magic: the Gathering fan, I see. I’d say he’s like the opposite of Chandra. Chandra shoots fire all the time and gets very emotional, and Dainix keeps his under control and isn’t used to using fire.
(Alinua is 100% Nissa though)
I feel like VD is about to smash his way onto the scene like the kool-aid man on Pixie-Stix
How will our heroes defeat him? Are Tess and Kendal OK? Is the cover art for this chapter an omen? FIND OUT NEXT TIME ON DRA-
Maybe it’s time to call for Walter?
Gasp, is he developing… pupils? Particularly dark ones, I might add?
Also really I’m too tired to check did he have pupils before?
To Bluefire, Goodbye ballad:
I’d say maybe that were trying out a new name and forgot to mention it, but that seems very unlikely at this point, given that a) they’d have noticed people were concerned that they were missing and at that point continuing the charade would be rude, and b) they have an Established Comments Thing. Oh I guess Erin just remembered, this is probably the world’s second strongest god as far as we know (discounting any primordial entities).

*Jade Emperor
alt text: gotta bitchslap superman into a wall at least once per fight, them’s the rules
Can the next frame just be an entire picture of a gigantic storm dragon? Please? I will sell my kidney to see this.
@the registar
I believe that also in chapter 7 that they say that Primordial Life is a counter for that
I’m pretty sure the rule for thunderstorms is find a ditch and lay in it. Don’t run across an open field waving a sword in the air.
*The void dragon would like to know your location*
Ooh what’s he looking at
Oooo, are we going to have a showdown between dragons? If Erin goes all Void Dragon, won’t Tess be shocked.
here comes voidy boy, here comes voidy boy, right down voidy boy lane!!!
I’m gonna predict what I think is gonna happen: Tynan has just transformed either into a larger version of himself or in some kind of storm dragon thing, Erin will then get super pissed that he hit his friend and his sister and lose control and the Void Dragon will come out, then white-haired paladin boy with the cool eyes is gonna sense the void dragon with the help of Lady White Dragon and will swoop in and try to attack Erin, paladin boy will then notice the huge ass storm dragon and help them
I love how the webcomic is all “oh noes, Tynan is powering up!” and half the comments are just DRAGON V DRAGON LET’S GOOOOOO!!!!!!
@The Fae Doctor
I’m laughing at the image that Michael somehow doesn’t notice the storm dragon until *after* attacking Erin
okai, you achieved it Tynan: you pissed Erin. Now you will absolutely die (maybe at the hands of the void dragon)
That towering shade is getting concerning though. I’m worried.

Oh boy, Tynan is going from humanoid abomination to eldritch abomination.
Erin in the last panel be like: No bitches?
