god, i love tynan’s vaporous incarnation, for i too have utter contempt for solid bodies
otherwise, it’s interesting to learn about ‘starfire’. perhaps Kendal will unlock some sort of celestial-type powers in the future?
and while i don’t know why i didn’t expect Erin to just go in all fireballs blazing (perhaps Tess is a chaotic influence on him) i’m very glad he did; not just because Kendal’s expression is HILARIOUS, but also because he’s FINALLY getting some help
Kendal’s doing pretty well for himself considering how long it took Vash to figure out the powerup. Also, glad child protection services could get there before Tynan could do anything else to his cowboy rival’s son.
I think it’s funny that Kendal, a guy whose name means ‘right hand’, tends to weild Kendal, a sword which is also called ‘right hand’, with his left hand.
‘Starfire’ huh, fire again. Also, it’s amusing that Tynan feels the need to tell Kendal this, Kendal REMEMBERS this XD
But let’s be completely honest here, Tynan’s exposition is really a clever way for Red to give us hungry readers exposition 😉
That was most certainly Erin and not Dainix. Erin was closer and Erin is much more likely to get there first, lighting magic is seen to make a person faster. Also Erin is much more likely to open with the big loud fire beam than Dainix.
Do you guys thing Erin has the ability to heal Kendal? sure he has life magic but he is not nearly as capable of healing somebody mid-battle as our resident avatar of life.
@MOSSSSSSS erin could heal Kendal, but it would take him a while to prepare the proper runic circle, like he did with the snow spell. alinua could just “feel it out” as she says. but erin, like most life mages, needs to carefully regulate his magic to prevent chimeric mutations
Tynan clearly hasn’t read the Evil Overlord List.
81: If I am fighting with the hero atop a moving platform, have disarmed him, and am about to finish him off and he glances behind me and drops flat, I too will drop flat instead of quizzically turning around to find out what he saw.
Starfire in the blade? Maybe Kendal can activate it by yelling “Titans, Go!”.
You know Alinua is both far away and still tired right now, because if she wasn’t she’d run right into that storm, paying no heed to her own safety, to heal Kendal. … Hmm, maybe it’s just as well she’s arriving a little late; maybe Erin could do a patch job for now.
I get the feeling that’s regular fire from Erin; he is the closest to Kendal after all. Also his ease of hitting Tynan’s incarnation shows just how distracted he is by Kendal. And considering how great a distraction Erin is (he said so himself) and Tess being Tess, this should give Dainix plenty of wiggle room for when it’s his turn.
You see, this is why you take advantage of the 3D space when fighting in the open field. If your ally is prone and on the ground, you can aim the fireball 25 feet above them and let the fools who are standing get scorched.
I’m sorry , Tynan, what was that about not being able to die?
@Rainbow demon: He tends to wield it with either hand, but the irony is not last on me.
@Wood Guardian: And a happy Pesach to you, too 🙂
Teryy Prachett somewhere made the point that you’re better off against a bad person than a good: the bad guy loves to talk, to gloat; this gives you a narrow window to act; the good guy will just pull the trigger and be done with the whole sorry mess.
Ayyy, Kendal finally got a good hit in! His slash looks serious, though- its a good thing backup arrived.
This whole page cracked me up: Tynan’s face as he looms in to taunt Kendal, the pure, glorious alt text, Kendal’s expression in the 6th panel…
When working with a pyro-powered teammate, it’s important to remember proper fire safety. Here, we see Kendal demonstrating the legendary technique of “Stop, drop…”
@Mat ty for posting the alt text today!
@Tumach I immediately thought of that, ty for posting the proper number
@confusedqueer Oh, that’s for the whole table to share. Could you please grab enough plates for the entire fandom?
I absolutely love the look of confusion on Tynan’s face as he wonders what tactical advantage Kendal could possibly receive from adopting that position.
And I see you, Red, you clearly planned this out well in advance the second you realized this page would release on 4/20.
Ahhh this page! Tynan getting a nice sautee before the main roasting begins! Add a little garlic, a little bit of pepper, and a pinch of cayenne, and presto! Tynan flambe!
Why no salt? Tynan is already salty enough.
Creator god: Okay! Congrats Vash! You can now manifest in physical form! What do want to look like? Do you want more than two arms?
Vash: No
Creator god: Wanna be biolumenecent?
Vash: No
Creator god: Wanna be a dues ex machina?
Vash: No
Creator god: Then what do you want?
Vash: Fire bones, metal skin, and an unbreakable shirt.
Creator god:
Creator god: I’m cutting u off
In the second to last panel, I thought Tynan was asking an existential question. It took me a while to realize the he didn’t get out the final word of his question, “doing?”
What I like about this arc is that Tynan’s character makes complete sense because he gets power from fear and dispair, so he will always play with his food. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if Kendall was also enough of a tough nut to crack that it would also take time to work through him anyways that requires the time.
I know there is also scene pacing, but I like when scene pacing aligns with actual motivations.
============================
A completely different thought: Is the Lady/opposition of the Void Dragon the manifestation of soul energy? It does seem to be the only ‘component’ not having some primordial backing compared to the other energy types discussed. Since we have Erin looking to the soul shapers, it also makes sense to have this be one of the revelations arising.
Don’t worry guys, he took the School of Evocation subclass lol
Also I can’t pinpoint what, but something about just the series of events taking place within the last 3 panels make me have to stifle laughter every time I see them.
Based on my own experience, it’s either Kendal’s “Oh shit!” expression, or the fact that Tynan’s completely oblivious to the fact that Kendal wouldn’t be dropping flat onto a massive open wound unless he had very good reason. (Such as massive incoming fireball)
(I’m assuming at this point it’s Erin arriving; granted we haven’t seen much of Dainix’s pyromantic ability, but I’m guessing it’s more suited to close rather than ranged combat.)
420 is slang for marijuana (aka weed), hence 4/20 is ‘Weed Day’. It’s like how 3/14 is ‘Pi Day’ because 3.14 are the first three digits of Pi (and Pi sounds like Pie, so people celebrate by, well, eating pie)
(And no, I don’t know why 420 is slang for marijuana. I just know that it is. I’m guessing the joke here is something to do with the page where Tynan takes a massive fireball and poofs into smoke is coincidentally
posted on 4/20 and being tagged ‘blaze it’, which based on context and the other comments is slang for smoking weed. )
Throughout this battle, given all of the views we’ve been given of Kendal(sword), I think it qualifies as a greatsword, but also a ‘hand-and-a-half’ sword, given how he uses it. The way it’s wielded it’s a bastard sword, the way it’s sized, I think it’s a greatsword. Given that it is meant to be used by a super durable, super strong god body, it makes sense that it would be shaped strangely by mortal sword standards. Given how thin the handle is, and that it looks to be made of solid metal, while also being very center heavy on the blade, this thing would be very powerful if used by a super strong deity whose hands and wrists were impossibly durable. The center heavy nature of the blade would put a lot of focus on slashing. Notably, double edged swords are good for slashing, but the two edged nature makes them better for stabbing, and less durable than their single bladed, slanted triangle shaped cousins.
These assertions are made with my very much NOT expert knowledge of swords.
Dainix or Erin…?
Doesn’t matter, it’s awesome!
kendall’s expression when laying down is so freaking top tier comedy gold I almost laughed out loud in my college library
Also loving the overconfidence of the storm in panel 4 – so well drawn!
omg yesssssssss i took a pic of it so i can look at it when i’m sad
or something
Reinforcements arrived.
That’s a gnarly gash.
But while Tynan keeps taunting,
Kendal sees what’s up.
That moment when you realize the mage in your party doesn’t understand the concept of “Collateral Damage”
Also Kendal putting up his sword like he’s about to parry the fireball. So precious <3
Alt text: “I didn’t ask if my friend was out of range, I said I cast Fireball.”
doing? I’m letting my bros defend my back.
You wouldn’t get it; it’s a mortal thing.
is that dainix or erin? whoever it is, its pretty fierce.
also kendal’s expression: whoops, here it comes. better back down, is HILARIOUS
Oh thank goodness the fire didn’t singe his hair
Alternative version of the scene.
Dainix: Duck!
Tynan: Where?
Fire: Whoosh!
Now the big question: has a third cape been destroyed?
god, i love tynan’s vaporous incarnation, for i too have utter contempt for solid bodies
otherwise, it’s interesting to learn about ‘starfire’. perhaps Kendal will unlock some sort of celestial-type powers in the future?
and while i don’t know why i didn’t expect Erin to just go in all fireballs blazing (perhaps Tess is a chaotic influence on him) i’m very glad he did; not just because Kendal’s expression is HILARIOUS, but also because he’s FINALLY getting some help
i didn’t notice this at first, but is the only thing left of Tynan’s incarnation there just a right eye and a screaming mouth? metal
Kendal’s doing pretty well for himself considering how long it took Vash to figure out the powerup. Also, glad child protection services could get there before Tynan could do anything else to his cowboy rival’s son.
“What are you” a guy with backup.
KILL IT WITH FIIIREEE
I think it’s funny that Kendal, a guy whose name means ‘right hand’, tends to weild Kendal, a sword which is also called ‘right hand’, with his left hand.
happy Passover everybody!
(yes I said that last page but Passover is a weak long)
Wreck shit!!
‘Starfire’ huh, fire again. Also, it’s amusing that Tynan feels the need to tell Kendal this, Kendal REMEMBERS this XD

Tynan tears Kendall’s back open,
The lack of star-fire he taunts,
Wounded Kendall lies flat, and Tynan gloats above,
Dainix’s flame the sky rends.
@MOSSSSSSS erin could heal Kendal, but it would take him a while to prepare the proper runic circle, like he did with the snow spell. alinua could just “feel it out” as she says. but erin, like most life mages, needs to carefully regulate his magic to prevent chimeric mutations
Second to last panel is the definition of “I’m a melee fighter and I just saw my wizard ally hit level 5”
@Wazo I mean, it is extremely precious, but there is also every chance that this sword actually *can* parry fireballs
Tynan clearly hasn’t read the Evil Overlord List.
81: If I am fighting with the hero atop a moving platform, have disarmed him, and am about to finish him off and he glances behind me and drops flat, I too will drop flat instead of quizzically turning around to find out what he saw.
TL;DR: This is no time for taunts, this is time for ARSON!!!
Okay but last 3 panels? bloody comedy gold!!! it’s been 10 minutes and i still haven’t stopped laughing
Kendal really do be like: Oh no *flop*
Starfire in the blade? Maybe Kendal can activate it by yelling “Titans, Go!”.

ERIN you can’t just DO THAT! What if you had hit Kendall???
waiter: and who ordered the flame grilled god
The mouseover text for this page is just glorious
and we´ll gonna let it burn *humms happily*
@Rainbow demon
I didn’t even notice that! Ironic XD
@veggiesnake
METAL.
You see, this is why you take advantage of the 3D space when fighting in the open field. If your ally is prone and on the ground, you can aim the fireball 25 feet above them and let the fools who are standing get scorched.

*I couldn’t hear you of the sounds of you getting vaporized like a chump!
Of course there’s a weed joke today. Happy Get-Baked-and-Watch-The-Matrix Day, everyone.
Having read the other comments, I fall into the Erin camp. He’s closer, and is much less hesitant about slinging (non-void) magic willy-nilly.
veggiesnake:
Actually, both of Tynan’s eyes are still there, along with a very melty screaming mouth. Even more metal.
@TheUnknownGame aha, i see the other eye now! that’s “i have no lungs and i must scream” levels of metal.
pyro tf2
Ayyy, Kendal finally got a good hit in! His slash looks serious, though- its a good thing backup arrived.
This whole page cracked me up: Tynan’s face as he looms in to taunt Kendal, the pure, glorious alt text, Kendal’s expression in the 6th panel…
Oh, good, he’s already stopped and dropped, he is in a perfect position to roll if necessary.
When working with a pyro-powered teammate, it’s important to remember proper fire safety. Here, we see Kendal demonstrating the legendary technique of “Stop, drop…”
@Mat ty for posting the alt text today!

l’m in Iove with Red

@raptor-6 YES!
now we have starfire, soulfire, and just normal fire fire
honestly i dont think its erin doing the fireball, simply because erin is focusing on the storm itself, while everybody else focuses on the body
It’s cute he thinks Kendal is afraid of death
I bet my house that this was inspired by Dany from Rolling with difficulty xD
“what are you-”
smart. he is smart.
Creator god: Okay! Congrats Vash! You can now manifest in physical form! What do want to look like? Do you want more than two arms?
Vash: No

oh! cool! you can see the snow! I wonder, has Tynan noticed?
I CAST BURNING HANDS
Dainix or Erin? Place your bets now, folks! I’m honestly not sure who’s closer at this point..
Of course the wizard can’t resist casting fireball.

do you think this will kill him. he is a storm.
also why is the time so weird.
the expression of kendal was like: Don’t hit me.
That alt text, that Kendal’s expression, that twist <3
PLEASE tell me this will be printed, Red. There are so many good parts, but I will buy a damn omnibus JUST for those last three panels.
Kendal this entire arc facing off with literal gods: Confident. Unbothered. In his lane.
Kendal in the last panels: One Fear.
Don’t worry guys, he took the School of Evocation subclass lol
Also I can’t pinpoint what, but something about just the series of events taking place within the last 3 panels make me have to stifle laughter every time I see them.
He bouta be saved by his best friend or his boyfriend
toastie

Wait a minute, april 20th, 4/20… BLAZE IT!? clever red
P Y R O M A N C Y
Wait what’s this date reference everyone seems to know about?
To Bluefire:
420 is slang for marijuana (aka weed), hence 4/20 is ‘Weed Day’. It’s like how 3/14 is ‘Pi Day’ because 3.14 are the first three digits of Pi (and Pi sounds like Pie, so people celebrate by, well, eating pie)

22/7 is the better Pi Day, because it’s a more accurate approximation and the dating system actually makes sense.
jflb96:
Maybe for European dating, but in The Americas we do month/day instead of day/month. It’s like saying April 20th instead of the 20th of April.
(If there are any countries in The Americas that do use day/month, I apologize for generalizing.)
A fireball reference *and* it’s posted on the perfect date for the joke? Phenomenal!
A blaze it joke on 4/20. Red you absolute madlad.

Dani
…was…was the timing on purpose?
Burn baby burn !
I’m pretty sure it’s Dainix and also Dani(RWD) would be proud
