I think you should rescue the prison Kendal, Kendal will make them rescue Dainix as well and the floof squad can help him with his inner demon(s) (literal and maybe also metaphorical). Then they can all work together to either make an enemy of/destroy a city and/or a storm…
but that’s just me, guess it depends how good your plot armour is…
Falst: And by “Talk to her” I of course meant gather support for Operation Jailbreak 2: Electric Boogaloo (now in stores).
Yep, I knew Alinua was pacing; she looked pretty troubled as the gang was leaving the embassy too. Gonna wear a hole in the rock? If only you knew Tess, she could crack mountains if she had the seeds and soil to do it.
Good point about Erin’s ego from Tess, making a potential city wide disaster about himself. However those words from Erin seem to have struck a chord. Honestly panels 5 and 6 are my favourites this page with what’s displayed in their expressions and words.
Ok, walk back into Zuurith and demand to see the manager, or else. That could go wrong in many ways but it looks like things are going to go belly up pretty soon anyway. Might as well get as close to Kendal and Dainix as possible.
Oh, about that… Kendal left the prison about five pages ago and is currently involved in a rather dramatic and angsty confrontation. Can you wait a little bit more?
I like the little bit of Erin’s internal struggle here. “All the power in the world and I still can’t protect anyone” really shows how he feels guilty both for getting them into this situation by being ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE that going to a city that hates Vash on principle was a good idea and for being unable to protect Tess from the situation his father put her in. He cares for all these people, even if he’s not the best at showing it all the time, and he doesn’t want them to be hurt. It makes me think that part of all his “I’m the elemental magus” stuff is because he relies on that to keep him from being hurt and preventing those he cares about from being hurt, because he’s learned that saying that tends to get him out of things. So, in some ways, the hubris is for show- all the dramatic poses and purple cape whirling purposeful to make people think “Oh man THIS GUY is way too powerful to mess with” and bend to his will. Of course, I definitely think that the hubris is also hubris. This *is* Hubris floof we’re talking about. But I think the hubris comes from childhood trauma of watching his sister be treated poorly while he couldn’t do anything, though I’m not sure Erin really realizes that. It sort of reminds me of a character from a book series I like- He was terrified of being powerless, like he was when his mother died, so he made sure he was extremely OP by literally giving himself MORE super powers.
Overall, great character work from Red. We love hubris floof in this household.
IM backkkkkk!! I haven’t been as active on this site recently but hey, Im here now!
The lolest:Ha, that’s exactly it! You don’t argue with a pissed off, impatient mama life
I had a squirrel named floofy: Im so sorry about the loss of your squirrel. Ah poor Erin. You literally sent the worst person to convince her not to try and rescue Kendal
Zia Stardust: Oooohhhhh… Maybe!
Where is Ahkuna: Yup very sunny. Especially considering the storm above them.
Sun storm the Budgie: oooooh. It sounds very traumatic…
Evil Tree: Your comment about Operation Jailbreak 2 killed me! Don’t do that to me, Im in school the teacher will think Im having a stroke! Floof squad is going to activate Karen mode, huh? Im really curious when the group will sit down and have a discussion about their parent issues/magical beings possessing them. It’s so hilarious that Dainix is like: “You don’t know the pain that I suffer by being possessed and losing my family!”! And Kendal goes “Oh you got possessed by a magical being/deity. Happens to literally everyone but Falst, but then he had a magical problem of its own! We all have some sort of parent/family issues too! welcome to the club!”
Somebody: Fascinating….
Even though nobody responded last post, the answer of the latest Pastrivia was B. The reason why it was posted twice was because of loading issues (ya’ll should know this comment section by now).
Also, I made a mislabel last time.
Kendal + Dainix = Prison Duo
Alinua + Erin + Falst = Crime Trio, but + Tess = The Storm Chasers
…why would anyone care about this?
“Plan B is making an enemy of an entire city. I really, really don’t want to have to do plan B.” Well, for all they know, Zuurith is now breaking a diplomatic agreement by imprisoning Kendal indefinitely for no reason; in that situation, a prison breakout would be completely justified. Of course, that isn’t what’s actually happening, so they should go to the administration cathedral and seek out Pryder to fill them in (cue the angry run to The Scream Pit afterwards).
Erin says he knew the dangers, but he couldn’t possibly have known about Tynan’s interference when he led everyone else here; he’s laying unnecessary blame on himself, and if Tess’s earlier conversation with Falst and Alinua is any indication, this is a habit for him. While it’s nice that he isn’t all ego and hubris (and that he regrets coming to Zuurith), there’s such a thing as being too self-depricating.
Actually, Kendal has the best chance of all of you of being able to actually hit Tynan, given that he has a sword specially designed to do exactly that. On the other hand, (haha, Kendal) Tynan is still a god, and Kendal is definitely not Vash anymore.
So yeah, I think plan B might entail making an enemy of the entire city by breaking Kendal out so that he can save the aforementioned city. Who knows, though.
Humanoid Clay:
I did see at least one response towards the bottom of the last page. Also, I thought Alinua, Falst, and Tess were the crime trio, with Erin making them the storm chasers?
Just looking at the floof squad issues roll call, we have:
Ali, who had her parents dump her off a cliff, and then she had to leave her adoptive parents and the rest of society to protect them from an incredibly rare curse that she had no control over. Then later she discovered “oh, yay it isn’t a curse, it’s just a primordial, the most ancient, powerful and dangerous of deities possessing me. On the bright side, I have more control over my powers! But when I get possessed I look green and glowing and dangerous.” Then she was immediately after meeting Kendal forced into a dangerous situation with a crazy quest and a largely populated, rule structured city where Kendal immediately was captured.
Kendal, who started as Vaash had to watch his city and people get destroyed before his very own eyes and had his souls taken by an incredibly dangerous, possibly insane woman with the powers of a part of a primordial. Then his dying body created a life of its own and was born into the world with very little memories and a nearly impossible, confusing quest. He is immediately burdened with dangerous, possessed friends and a dangerously loyal spirit determined not to let anyone die because of him. Then he had to go to the city of one of his biggest divine enemies, and was captured by that enemy with his friends as leverage. Then he was forced to fight his new friend who turns out to be magically possessed.
Erin, who had a controlling dad, a mom who was completely unable to help, and an adopted “playmate” who he though of as a sister and could never protect until she was old enough to get the f out of there and never saw again after she left. He had some sort of health issues as a child, and was forced into the role of elemental magnus, which came with lots of power and prestige and an incredible amount of pressure and expectations he had and still has to meet. Then he got possessed by an evil void dragon who wants to destroy the planet and got strung along on a stressful, dangerous series of events with no particularly well defined end goal or plan.
Falst, who obviously doesn’t exactly have good parents, considering he’s not with them and one of them said “If you are my son you will find a way” and has lived as an outcast and freak all his life for being a ferin and lost his only chance at becoming human that wasn’t even a chance in the first place apparently.
Tess, who was adopted as a “playmate” (aka enslaved forced friend) for a young, hubristic outcast boy (aka Erin) and was treated badly by his parents (or at least dad) and never hesitated to get out of there, leaving only one thing behind, Erin. She had no drive or will as a child, and was chosen by the sky as a way out.
And finally, Dainix who was taken over by a fire demon and destroyed some of the people he loved (no idea exactly who, but he lost a lot) Then he was kidnapped by a dangerous god and forced to fight and kill in his arena. He became friends with one of his cell mates but is now being forced to kill him in order to free himself.
In other words, the floof squad deals with a lot. Hooray for traumatic events, awful, dead or lost families, and magical possession or magical transformation!!
‘All the power in the world, and I still can’t protect anyone,’ next to a close-in on Tess’s terrible lightning scar looks like what we in the biz call foreshadowing. Or I guess post-shadowing if it’s already happened? Definitely some shadowing though, and not just because of the giant stormcloud that’s been building for four consecutive chapters.
“An entire city is in danger and you’re making this about you?” She’s right and she should say it! He’s just spiraling and blaming himself instead of doing anything helpful. It’s understandable that he’s just spiraling, but still not helpful.
Does… does this mean, that Life Mom is going to make a dramatic entrance at the Scream Pit? I don’t know if Red is going to just give Alinua a convenient lacrima, but I really want Red to give Alinua a convenient lacrima. I want Alinua to go absolutely HAM on Zuurith, and not having a lacrima really limits her options…
Will Zuurith recognize the Primordial of Life when he sees her? Gleicann addressed her as “Lady” and acted like he just knew who she was and where his place is under her. Will Zuurith do the same or is his ego so inflated that it’s lifting him like a hot air balloon?
chapter 11 gave me ‘erin is the older sibling of the group’ vibes, and i shrugged it off as ‘eh, maybe but maybe not’, and then the whole time they’ve been in this city i’ve just been repeatedly slammed with more ‘erin is the older sibling of the group’ moments. i really like the sibling dynamic all the protagenists have.
@Hermit Thrush
YES Renegades! Good series 10/10, though I sometimes think that things worked out a little *too* nicely at the end given how complicated everything was. I actually went to a book signing back when the first book in that series came out and got it autographed by Melissa Meyer herself (just to flex a little)
Capstone: Oh wait, last we heard, the Junior Archivist was heading towards the arena! Hooray!
…oh wait, she’s heading towards the arena; the place with 7 highly magically charged individuals, two of which being actively hostile.
Oh no.
@TheUnknownGame: 2 for 2, thank you! Congrats to Zer0 W0lf for answering correctly. Also, yes, I am mistaken once more:
Alinua + Falst + Tess = Crime Trio, but + Erin = The Storm Chasers
Alolanvulpix, yes definitely as an older sibling and a friend of many other older siblings I can certify that Erin is an older sibling, aka the only one with brains.
ImuyanMangoCat, great to see you!! Also I laughed way to hard at the Albus Perceval Wulfric Brian “Name is way too long” Dumbledore!
Marlowe, hmm what would you call that? Regardless of what you call it good point!
Humanoid Clay, OH FU— I didn’t think about that… She is headed to the arena… what is she going to understand or more likely misunderstand when she sees the floof squad breaking Kendal out… ooof. They’ve got enough enemies as it is…
My predictions thus far have not been hitting the mark, so I’m less than optimistic. XD But I do wonder if, when Tynan touches down, the Shadow Dragon will be the thing to deal with him. Haven’t heard from the snake in a while, and this seems like it could be setup for that whole “Erin can try to seize and use its power” angle that was vaguely teased a while back.
Alinua: *angy*
Falst: don’t worry guys i’ll go talk to her
Falst: so Alinua… jailbreak time?
Alinua: no I figured I give them a slice of that new melon I got- YES JAILBREAK TIME!!
@Steve, Lord of Darkness: I doubt we’ll see Life again in this arc. There’s nothing in Zuurith that would neccessarily offend her the way Jolon did. I’d also find it a little odd to have two consecutive arcs resolved by the same primordial showing up at the end.
Plus, if you look at the chapter cover, it’s clearly focused on Dainix and Kendal. Which makes sense, their fight in the arena is a major focus at this point. But I’m thinking there’s also more to that, and it’s not just Tynan probably showing up–we just got the reveal/confirmation that Dainix is the demon. What might this situation–especially when Tynan and possibly Zuurith inevitably get involved (and maybe Caliban, too) reveal about Kendal?
Or a ‘descent into villainy’ arc, given he’s possessed by the Void Dragon. Though that does leave open the possibility of ‘redemption through self-sacrifice’…
Quick PSA:
In order to continue living, human beings need to breath. This includes lesbians. And most panels with Tess, such as panel 4, seem to be very good at taking said breath. So I would like to request that Red:
Please keep draws those I love them so much never stop.
Erin needs a bit of a reality check here. he did not know that Zuurith was going to imprison Vash, he did not know that Kendal would be put into the arena, and he surely did not know about Tynan coming specifically for Kendal nor that Kendal was visible to the gods at large.
The dangers he knew about was the arena as a vague but distant possibility, that the rules were strict and they could get into trouble with the law easily, and that he would need to be here for an extended period of time.
Falst: “I’ll go talk to her”.
Alinua: (눈‸눈)
Falst:…
Alinua: “Good, We are going back for Kendal.”
Pacing back and forth.
Erin is feeling guilty.
Time to get Kendal.
Ali, stop interrupting Erin when he’s about to tell us some backstory
Erin wasn’t there when falst went running off to go rescue.
Falst: “I’ll go talk to her.”
Expectation: hey, everything gonna work out, it’ll be fine.
Reality: let’s cut the bs and go kick some ass. And then run faaar away.
Erin “WHAT! NO!”
Still can’t protect anyone? As in couldn’t protect Tess when they were younger?
THEYRE FRIENDS NOWWWWW the emotional gap has been semi-bridged!!
i really like the way tess’ scar looks
Everyone is in such a sunny mood 🙂
Our boy has ✨issues✨
I think you should rescue the prison Kendal, Kendal will make them rescue Dainix as well and the floof squad can help him with his inner demon(s) (literal and maybe also metaphorical). Then they can all work together to either make an enemy of/destroy a city and/or a storm…

TL;DR: Wait, is that DOUBT I hear? Is Mr. Hubris UNSURE? What an interesting development…
Woo, get ready for some plot with a side of angst!
On another note, I wonder what’s happening with the junior archivist…

@Goldfinch Renegades, by any chance? That series was a fun ride.

I’m pretty sure that’s the exact opposite of what Erin expected Falst’s chat to do.

@The Lolest is that hangeul? “nun nun”, meaning “snow snow” or “eye eye”?
yeah, i don’t know hangeul nearly well enough to have a clue
hmmmmmm, the beginnings of an ‘i must become more powerful to protect everyone’ arc for Erin, possibly? well, we ALL know where that would lead
