Don’t know how respectful the area master will be to this sudden request since it likely ruins his chances of a heated match. Also why do I feel like it’s going to one of those what birb? We get so many, and my assistant handles those so I regret to inform you that we won’t be taking any birbs and this time please try again tomorrow. ( conveniently after this match) *wink wink* if you catch my drift.
I have a feeling they won’t be able to leave in time…
Or is that what they’re doing? (I’m a little confused-)
Either way, Tynan’s about to attack the plot
the “thank you for being so accommodating” at the end there reminds me so much of Work Emails where you can sense the barely-suppressed rage right below the surface
That’s really sweet that she took the time to make sure he was okay! I mean it’s probably also in the best interest of the archive because of the information he wanted. He did act pretty strange around her, from his unorthodox display of hubris to a genuine apology to leaving abruptly and formally cold. All this to say that the Junior Archivist is a wonderfully developed side character and Red has done a fantastic job with her characterization, per usual.
TL;DR: Ah, inconvenient timing. A staple of writing.
In other news, looks like the gang is here to try stopping the fight. Eat ridiculous hijinks will ensue?
Aw, Alinua doesn’t have a cloak anymore. She really pulls those off really nicely.
In other news, seems that now we know the plot we’re going into hyperdrive. we need to get out of Zuurith-or get Kendal to punch Tynan in the face before he can cause havoc. I can’t wait for them to get the probable response of “Sorry, Kendal’s busy, he’s currently fighting our champion in the arena, we’re providing you with free tickets to watch if you want” and get really annoyed. Or maybe Zuurith with make the Arenamaster stop the fight to not risk setting off Erin, which would be reasonable but that means we won’t get to see Dainix v. Kendal! We’ve been waiting for it for like a chapter and a half now and I wanna see them throw some hands even if they’d probably be doing their best not to hurt each other! We’ll have to wait and see I guess. I also wonder if the Junior Archivist is going to try and track down Erin to check on him, which would probably get her wrapped up in the plot. There has to be a reason that Red had her go after Erin instead of just having her leave the story, which would be infinitely easier. I’m not really sure where this plot thread is going, but I kind of hope it leads to Michael entering the story somehow. Like, Erin’s Voidy problem is revealed and now the paladins are after them and they need to hightail it to Helm as quickly as possible before Michael nukes them from the atmosphere. It would be cool to see Voidy again for sure, especially now that Erin’s sister is with us and thus far has no idea about his little “problem”. That’s going to be dramatic.
So Erin plans to lure Tynan out of the city? While I definitely admire his commitment to avoiding collateral damage, I’m also worried that the crew might get smote on the Crow’s Head Plains without backup, at least unless Kendal the sword has some latent power left from its Tynan-sundering past. Sure, Tess and Erin can both run defense against the lightning, but no one (except maybe Kendal) can really hurt Tynan, seeing as how Alinua and Life only have plants, Falst and Kendal are melee only, and Dainix… well, fire doesn’t tend to do well against water. The only other option would be void magic, which might be enough, but it obviously comes with a whole other suite of problems.
Erin: “Where is he??”
Zuurith: “The vessel? He’s in the arena, fighting our champion.”
Erin: “He’s in the WHAT NOW“
Oh you don’t know the half of it J.A..
So, just making sure he’s ok, that makes sense. I doubt she’d be allowed to take material outside the archive without permission anyway.
While the off-screen explanation does mean we miss a lot of “Oh s**t!” face hilarity it does help streamline things and keep the plot moving. They’ll be plenty of time for those kinds of faces when Tynan announces himself.
In the final panel Erin definitely looks concerned; it seems he too know about Tynan. He probably knows that there’s nothing stopping Tynan from incarnating right now so they’d better hurry both for their sake and the city’s.
I’m always impressed at how Red nails each character’s pose and actions in each panel to match their personalities. In the second to last panel we have: Alinua anxiously crossing arms and following closest to Erin, likely concerned for Kendal; Falst looking around to keep an eye out for guards and hunters that might try something; and Tess looking up at the clouds, her fears about the storm confirmed.
Something tells me that Erin’s just managed to guarantee the Floof Squad front-row seats to that special match–which is about to be moved up the schedule by a few hours–whether they want those seats or not…
Interesting. Despite Zuurith and his namesake city being the pinnacle of hypocracy and injustice, Erin really doesn’t want to risk hurting innocent civilians. Tynan is after Kendal, so the hope is that by moving him away from a civilized area, casualties can be minimized. Unfortunately, I doubt Tynan will take the bait. He likes killing gods and terrorizing people in order to attract worshippers. Taking on Zuurith is pretty on brand. The question is whether he considers taking out Kendal more important than the added glory of destroying Zuurith and his city.
The whole Erin situation must look really weird from JA’s perspective. The Elemental Magus shows up one day, out of NOWHERE, demanding access to… EVERYTHING (which NO ONE DOES ever), gets all mad about it, comes back and APOLOGIZES because apparently he really wants to prove to the Aseran academy that the Black Dragon exists? And asks for ONE DAY in the archives, and gets really into the research, all “this can’t possibly be true” until he makes some mind-blowing discoveries– and then all of a sudden gets a message bird, panics, and IMMEDIATELY LEAVES with no explanation and apparently no intention of coming back ever???! That’s a really weird way to go about writing a research paper…
So JA decides to check up on him, but apparently he seemed upset and went to probably either the prison or the gladiator arena??? why??? Literally everything about this situation is extremely suspicious, no wonder she’s confused and concerned.
I just discovered this comic and read through the entire thing!! It’s great and I want to keep reading it! I’m guessing that the storm god will touch down once Kendal is in the arena and they can have their battle there.
Hola, amigos! I’m back and here to respond to literally every comment! Hope your holidays were good (or at least better than mine, holidays were ROUGH for me)… and you have a good 2022 (here’s hoping it was better than the last two years) I’m SO excited to see the junior archivist getting involved, I remember a while back someone asked why the Junior archivist was on the character page, since she wasn’t that involved in the story and I was confused too, but it looks like our answer is here, and she’s getting involved in the plot! And the odds are 99.9 out of 100 that Kendal isn’t getting released, at least before the match! (AM wants a match and he’s getting a match, unfortunately) (I like your idea Drackonicka, makes sense)
Youngstormlord:
YES THEY ARE LMAO!!
Somebody:
Yes. On all points, yes.
Goldfinch:
I agree with the ideas about voidy/Michael. I mean, Tess has to find out somehow, how about in the most dramatic and badly timed (In relation to Tynaan being near and Kendal v. Dainix, and them not being able to explain to her) way possible! Maybe throw in a battle with Tess desperately trying not to hut her brother but stop her from hurting on everyone else (bonus points if Tess doesn’t know about Voidy or what’s going on), just to give our heartstrings a little tug and keep us on the edge of our seats…
TheUnknownGame:
That last part/conversation was ON POINT! I laughed so hard inside… With the point about the fight, you’re right that could be NASTY since the others can’t do as much (except for Tess and Erin running defense) except for Kendal.
Tigris:
Welcome to Aurora!!
@Hii. Glad ur back! Noticed u were missing for a bit. My holidays were moderately blasé, I didn’t really get that many gifts but I did get some money from relatives and had some good food.
Also, for anyone else reading this: I’ve got enough money to get a drawing tablet (with no screen) does anyone here draw, and does anyone here have any recommendations because I’m considering getting the XP PEN Deco 01 V2.
Of course Red couldn’t resist the urge to make a pun in the alt text….. I’m not mad about the pun, I’m just disappointed that I didn’t think of it myself
Stranger and stranger
Plans have changed, it’s time to leave
Got no time to waste
Man I love those birds xD
I bet there will be an epic battle between Kendal and mr. Stormgod

Wait, are they… tweeting to each other this whole time?! **Mind blown**.
This can only end well! 😀

I have a feeling they won’t be able to leave in time…

Lets just hope he doesnt have to adhere to the 280 character limit

“sternly birded letter …” Cute.

Tess’ description on the Characters Page has been updated. “A metal-caste young woman. Very in tune with local weather conditions.”

How will the Arenamaster get Kendal and Dianix into Arena? Does he have a contingency for Stormgod appearances?
Oh you don’t know the half of it J.A..

that upload speed may not be fast enough! That is why you should get: NORD VPN!
Erin didn’t even bother to make the birb look like himself this time
I just discovered this comic and read through the entire thing!! It’s great and I want to keep reading it! I’m guessing that the storm god will touch down once Kendal is in the arena and they can have their battle there.
STERNLY BIRDED LETTER
Yo! Let’s go Junior Archivist! You sensed the plot and got involved! I see all that reading wasn’t for show! Use that trope knowledge!
I’m very excited I really like junior archivist design and I’m excited to see them do stuff
Ah, missed the message from the Junior Archivist? You know that’s going to crucial.
‘Do you really think they’ll just let him go?’
Oh Alinua my sweet summer child. Of course not. There’s plot to be had!
Am I the only one who wants the JA to join the crew?
…I think I’ve become attached to her.
