In the Red corner, we have the up and comer, Kenall. And in the blue corner, a contender that needs no introduction, it’s Tynan. This special fight has been a long time in the making, but here we are now. The Right Hand versus the Angry Stormy Boy. Without any further ado, lets see how our fighters do.
Don’t you hate it when your job doesn’t always reward you more to hunt outcasts and minorities ?
Golly gee, I wonder where Red could have gotten the idea for Shrike’s profession to be like that !
Lightning has struck, I repeat, lightning has struck!
Lightning implies thunder, so a couple seconds from now, there will be no person in Zuurith that has not noticed the storm. That includes Kendal. Sensing a scene change…
Why is it THIS page that made me well up a bit??
Like it’s so wholesome, but to me it seems like Shrike’s part in the story is being tied up, so that made me very sad.
But for now, I will enjoy Shrike’s little smile in Panel 8.
Shrike: Thanks, I’ve not had the best day when it comes to water.
So, it’s not all roses at the top. She may be free to do many things but the city still restricts her and wears her down. The illusions of power, freedom, authority, all playing out in this chapter made Shrike a perfect antagonist and foil to the gang.
Good move. Minor antagonists are at risk of being killed by major antagonists to show how powerful and bad they are; best to quietly leave the current plot. Maybe come back later when the storm passes or for a team-up to beat Tynan.
Panel 8, beneath that tiredness I think that’s the first completely genuine smile Shrike has given us. You can really feel the history and respect these two have for one another, in spite of their different philosophies and outlooks. If they do survive Tynan’s rampage I hope they decide to book it and leave the city; I think it’ll do both of them a world of good.
Now where to next? Back to the embassy after an off-screen Tynan info-dump? The prison where Kendal and Dainix are talking about the fight? Zuurith himself glaring at the clouds dramatically?
Huh. I was expecting Kendal and/or Dainix, but it’s a good thing to give Shrike some closure. Hopefully Trusk can convince her to stop abducting and enslaving people, but that’s probably a long shot.
So now, that’s two subplots wrapped up: the archive and the crime trio. Now, only three are left: Caliban’s plan, Kendal and Dainix, and Tynan’s revenge. (Wow, this plot is crowded…)
Also, I love the alt text: “get outta the plot and take your cow-man with you”
Is this the end of Shrike’s run in the comic? I feel like this might be the end for Shrike’s run in the comic. I suppose that it’s a good ending for her, instead of getting in over her head and triggering a fight with full on Life Mum or Voidy, though it’s surprising that she isn’t. I was sort of expecting that to be the end of her character rather than a quiet send-off. I don’t think that she’s learned much from this experience but her experience might start her on a path of re-evaluating- moving on from her bounty-hunting and maybe leaving Zuurith. Well, I hope so. May she find herself not being smite-ed by Tynan in his upcoming rampage.
I actually feel sorry for Shrike now… I kind of like her. And that storm is looking rather bad… I have a feeling that our main characters aren’t going to be able to leave the city as easily as they think. A boss fight with Tynan is coming their way!
Honestly while this is a nice ending for Shrike it kinda makes me dislike her more lol. Because it implies that she does this job because its fun. And her job is literally hunting down minorities petty criminals or anyone else she can find and throw them in a arena
Somebody:
Most of the time, burying your head in the sand when a threat is ominously looming over you is a dangerously stupid course of action; but since Tynan gets stronger from attention… yeah, not worrying about him is okay for now.
Hermit Thrush:
Please note that I didn’t intend to step on anyone’s toes, I just wanted to make sure my comment would make sense in case no one else posted the alt text. Thank you for taking it in stride.
Hello. I am Chairman Matthew of the ‘Shrike Should be a Protagonist’ Party. You know what would be positively devastating to Shrike but could also serve as a catalyst for major character development? Trusk’s death. I’m not endorsing it, I’m just saying.
I like how Trush reaches out in compassion to his hot tempered & dare I say bull headed friend? (how subversives to have the minotar be the voice of reason! Cudos Red!) But for their bond of mutual suffering, even though they disagree shrike still has a friend to lean on in hard times. It looks like shrike will need that if Tynon’s ire has been aroused.
@TheUnknownGame you’re totally fine! I actually appreciate it when someone else has posted the alt text before I get on, since I tend to post relatively late. The only reason I double-posted was to put it front and center, in case someone was skimming the comments for the alt text rather than reading all the replies.
“Get out of the plot and take your cow-man with you.” — Ha! It appears Red had Interesting Minor Character Syndrome: when a fully-fleshed minor character starts to develop like a storm system, and stick to the plot like a burr; but the character will derail the plot or create a subplot that’ll take forever to resolve, so they’re basically a big distraction potential. Some authors choose to let their Interesting Minor Character temporarily interrupt the plot (Shakespeare did it on purpose to appeal to the rowdier crowd in front of the stage). Some run with it, and just let the reader try to remember all these characters (Game of Thrones needs them because he keeps killing off his major characters). But most restrain them like bludgers in a bag, never letting their Interesting Minor Characters have much airtime. Not often do I see an Interesting Minor Character get this much of arc tied off with a bow.
Somehow I don’t think Shrike receives simple kindnesses like that, enough. Probably doesn’t allow herself to. But Trusk got this just right, and maybe this will nudge her in a healthier direction…
Maybe trusk can get shrike for chill out. Big maybe but I got hope
Wait no more shirke??? but she’s so hot tho she makes my lesbian heart go voosh
It’s wcw, so more shrike. Checks out.

@Rororoyourboat Cue the Cuphead Announcer Quotes! My favorite pairing is “A good day for a swell battle! And begin!”
They are so sweet together. WHY THEY ARE SO SWEET TOGETHER?!

At least she knows when to quit.

This page’s image source is: tired

TL;DR: Politics is boring, let’s not worry about it. So is that storm. Let’s also not worry about it.

ty for first post, TheUnknownGame — this is just a duplicate post to make sure that no one misses it.

Now, exit stage left
to make way for Tynan’s show.
Thunder and lightning.

This is probably gonna sound mean, but AWW BOO HOO ARRESTING PEOPLE FOR YOUR CITY’S SCAM ARENA ISN’T FUN? >:(
This a really great moment but Shrike’s hair tuft keeps switching sides and it’s driving me crazy.

Can’t tell if Shrike is smiling in the second last panel or making a ‘really bro?’ face.
Trusk and Shrike are the CUTEST friendship! You don’t get to argue with me; I know it to be true
not gonna lie know shes a villain and all but still platonic relationships just make me so happy 🙂
Aww they’re fwouends

“It is going to rain”
bit of an understatement there, bud
