Two beautiful women with big gay energy having a conversation about cuffs and chains while one is binding the other. If this was written by any other author I’d cry fetish appeal.
I think this is the first time I’ve seen Shrike NOT smiling; I wonder if she’s starting to get an inkling that this won’t be the smooth capture it appears to be. Still we haven’t seen those pellets in action yet, they could be a game changer.
Art wise I see Red is using Kirby dots here and in the last page to show Shrike’s powers in action. Makes sense, both Tess’s lightning and Shrike’s metal moving are similar colours so it helps to have round dots Vs. jagged lines to show whose power is whose.
Now straight to fight scene or a quick talk about the weather first?

I predict snap the cuff allowing her to use magic again, fly off with lightning while holding the chain and taking Shrike for a wild ride around town until the hunter lets go.
Option 1: Still uses lightning and the energy shoots through the chain and electrocutes blondie.
Option 2: Effortlessly snaps chain in half.
I really hope it’s 2, I’m a sucker for that sort of thing.

My guess is that being metal-caste, stone/metal magic doesn’t work on her/she can make it stop working or something. Or maybe the fact that she has LITERAL METAL SKIN helps the fact that she could break the chain. Look at the way she’s holding the chain in that last pannel. She’s gonna snap it and by the way she admires it, she knows what she’s dealing with.
i love how the hunter with the purple bandana is keeps standing in the same pose like they went “I spent three hours practising my menacing pose, I am NOT letting it go to waste!” ?

My biggest question is- When Shrike loses, will she be the “you’ve beaten me and I respect you for it” kind of enemy, or will she be the “how dare you foil my plan, now Im unhinged” kind.
Oh my, they are both waayyy too gorgeous. And now fictional characters are making me question my sexuality again.

What I think went on in Tess’ mind in these 10 seconds
Encounters bad guys: “oh? Are we’re gonna fight?”
Tripped by bad guys: “yup I think we’re gonna fight, this’ll be over too quick”
Seal cuffed by bad guys: “Oh Hell Yeah! We’re gonna fight fisticuffs!!”
Taunted by bad guys: “You all don’t know what you’re getting into, but I haven’t had a good brawl since that dragon several days ago”
I mean, a metal amazon is practically underpowered in this world. (Or maybe my perception of this world’s power level is skewed by the main party including a dead god, the Nahvatar, and someone blessed[?] by a Primordial.)
Well, of course she’s not worried. She’s holding that chain like a weapon. Tess has two things she likes to do: move fast, punch stuff. Bright idea forcing her to slow down and stop, Shrike.
Imagine Tess just using the whip to swing Shrike around like a lasso- like she probably won’t but that would be so badass
Does the chain seem a little… dustier to anyone else? It did do that last page, but this has a little more around the edge and Shrike did appear to reach into her pocket in panel three…

That face in panel 4 is so the face of someone who’s accustomed to taking it for granted that their skilset represents an instant ‘I Win’ condition in any situation.

This is going to get fun! Man, I love Tess’s reaction to things. Literally cant wait for Wednesday! Red, this almost feels like a bigger cliffhanger than the comics that are SUPPOSED to be!
Most likely predictions: She’s going to try electrocuting Shrike down the chain, but it wont work bc magic sealing cuff, and she’s confused and disappointed (and so am I). OR she snaps the chain and then electrocutes Shrike. OR she snaps the chain and then does it with normal lightning magic. All of the above end in her lightning-teleporting away somewhere.
This DOES, however, seem like the perfect time for someone to finally one-up Tess, especially given Shrike’s sudden entrance into the comic, her reputation already, and the fact that we’re only 7 pages in. We also havent seen those things the alchemist gave her yet either.

BUT did anyone notice that when the lightning started to crackle, it was right on top of her scars? It’s almost like Erin’s tattoos. I wonder if they accidentally accomplish the same thing?

Plot twist: Tess doesn’t want to escape. She thinks that if she’s captured she can talk to somebody in charge about the storm.
Of course Tess isn’t worried. She probably was planning for this to happen.

Snap and Crackle but no Pop? I feel cheated
I feel like it’s important to clarify: the chain doesn’t have any special anti-magic properties, the cuff does. And if all metal-caste were strong enough to snap any of these restraints that easily, it would probably be common knowledge and the hunters would use a different tactic. Just my small contribution.
