I think Erin is becoming my favorite character for just that reason. I also like the way he simultaneously speaks like its information that should be obvious to anyone while also treating it like something only someone as talented and educated as himself could understand fully.
I know! It’s as if everything he says is prefaced by, “How could you possibly not know this?! It’s so obvious! I mean, I guess you’re not a genius like me, so yeah, of course you don’t know it, but STILL!”
Erin was my favorite character the moment I met him. What can I say? I like nerdy, eager characters. And arrogant characters are always fun. And he was wearing a cape, goggles, and providing expositional narration that was actually humorous and interesting. Everything about him was perfect.
If Red doesn’t at some point include a scene where someone tries to floof up Falst’s hair affectionately, he hisses and bats their hand away, then apologizes and lets them try again, I’ll feel betrayed.
I love how Kendal isn’t surprised at Erin falling over in his haste to begin the exposition, and how Erin immediately calms down when he finds out Falst is trying to be careful in his use of the lacrima. Stealing is forgivable but stupidity is not apparently.
I get the feeling Lion-boi (who’s name the gang really needs to ask for in the next few pages) doesn’t know the full historical context of the Ferin race and the previous failed attempts to cure them. Erin will most likely explain provided whoever is saying “Wait.” doesn’t change topic. (I theorise it’s Alinua about to ask “If he didn’t make the chimeras, who did?”)
HUAGH followed by Kendal helping him up is adorable… panels 5 and 6 seem very meme-able… Falst makes the same “GAH” expression three times and I love it… over all a great page, as per usual!
Where did Falst learn how to read, I wonder?
Today on, “Deep Thoughts With Heinlein”,
Theft is fine, greed is part of nature. Stupidity is bad, as it shortens your general lifespan with bad mistakes.
Chapter 13: Life Magic and Fixing Mutations
It cannot be done. Centuries of research have exhausted all mortal avenues and quite a few divine ones. It is believed that nothing short of the Life Primordial directly intervening will have any shot of not failing horribly.
Fair enough, but I am as I always was, I come to realize years ago no matter how much yoga I do I ain’t a chubby mellow guy, yeah ok, a few sandwiches away;
I do wonder what sitting in full lotus feels like, nobody gets everything…
You really learn something about the way Falst’s brain works here.
*Book on using life magic safely = Spells to fix mutations = OBVIOUS step-by-step instructions on fixing a specific mutation that even someone who knows nothing about life magic can use! (Completely ignore the fact that Ferin aren’t exactly rare and some have undoubtedly caused enough trouble in certain places/instances that it totally would have been worth it to ‘fix’ them if possible.)*
I think he’s about the same smol-ness as Erin, but he tends to adopt a more crouchy, ready-to-spring pose. My bet is that standing full he would be a bit taller than Erin, but that’s just my impression. He definitely has shown a tendency to sort of crouch-prowl around as he’s emoting
Lore question: could these slow “life-based bodily alterations” be used as a sort of magical hormone replacement therapy for trans people in this world to change their body to fit their gender?
Don’t worry, everyone, Erin’s here to provide exposition and lore in the most lovable and interesting way.

Don’t leave out his wild take expressions, the three finger face-palm, and “AND STAY OUT!”
I f***ing adore Erin
yessss same
i have found my fellow erin fans
Oh My God he’s fucking Sylvester Ashling!
Oh, this is awesome – how often do you have a character go “I read to do thing right!”
Splendid X3
Very true
What did I tell you guys? XD
Erin, don’t be blunt
You are now allowed to pet the kitty.
And I intend to
considering falst is part human that sounds kinda dirty o_o
It was a reference to this page:

But yes, that sounds kinda dirty.
If Red doesn’t at some point include a scene where someone tries to floof up Falst’s hair affectionately, he hisses and bats their hand away, then apologizes and lets them try again, I’ll feel betrayed.
I think it would work really well
Oh…. THAT’S that storyboarded panel we saw!
Didn’t take long to find it, but I wanted to see everything else in the Media section first. https://twitter.com/AuroraWebcomic/status/1242342964074098690?s=20

To quote an oddly prolific chemist, “It’s not safety first, it’s stupidity last.”
10 secs ago: Fight to the death, bone crushing, no mercy.
Now: “You silly goose you can’t change with just life magic!”
This night went from 0 to 100 and back to 0 real fast

Mysterious colors, unlike any seen on Earth.
Ah, a servermate with culture!
Ah, the joys of research. It’s always fun to find out you missed something very important and your lab project is just about to explode.
bonus points when you are the test subject.

Erin: my same personality type. blunt as a two-by-four, and with just the right amount of smartass. ;P
Erin’s book on Life Magic.

Chapter 14: Life Magic and…
… what I learned by hanging around with Life Primordial
Chapter 15: Life Primordial: the Life story! (Written by Mysterious guest!)
Chapter 16:
What an entrance!
It’s sort of funny that both members of Team Academy have fallen on their face after making a dramatic entrance.
WHAP
New theory, judge at will: Dr Jolon made/is making chimeras.
Thoughts?
Maybe Dr Jolon was trying to help Falst and wanted to experiment first, but didn’t know about the chimeras.
Sometimes this comic is serious, heart wrenching, and epic… and sometimes… it’s comedic gold. This is an amazing comic Red, keep up the good work.
Erin’s face! XD
Erin: it won’t work.
Alinua (probably): ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT.
My favorite thing about this exposition is that “life-based body alterations” is a fun way to say Trans Rights.

Erin knows it all
I love Erin. So much.
I knew there was something weird with this whole situation!
“I mean, sure, you stole my stuff, but you did it for a LOGICAL reason. I can get behind that.”
Stealing is apparently a minor blunder compared to stupidity.
this ferin smacks of new party member, I love it
Well, they’ve had their fight. Now it’s time for them to become friends ?
Dang Falst is TINY

And now for Red’s favorite pastime: GIVING US NEW PROTAGONISTS!
Brought to you by OSP and the OSP Patreon.
Floofy hair, disorganized, super smart…
Erin does have the makings of a genius.
TL;DR: Apparently, Corpse floof tried to copy Nerd floof, but the REAL Nerd floof says it won’t work and is about to explain why.
What a nerd.
Lore question: could these slow “life-based bodily alterations” be used as a sort of magical hormone replacement therapy for trans people in this world to change their body to fit their gender?
Haha, Erin in the last panel.
HUAGH!
-Erin
The 5th and 6th panels are gold. XD
Chimeric plague: basically fantasy-cancer!
