1) I love Kendal doing hand-to-hand combat. It’s beautiful. And also really realistic–I wonder if Red knows any martial arts.
2) Alinua . . . Alinua . . . I like Erin, but WHAT THE HECK MAKES YOU THINK GIVING HIM THE LACRIMA WOULD EVER BE A GOOD IDEA?! YOU were the one Kendal said would destroy the lacrima best, not Mr. Hubris!
3) This action is amazing. So well choreographed.
4) . . . but I can’t wait for the inevitable talking-out-our-differences dialogue scene. Dialogue scenes always have more meat to them, and I’m also just the kind of person that likes dialogue. So I’m anxiously awaiting that scene. That said, man this action is good. Red makes me actually like action–I’ve never liked or even been able to follow fight scenes before I read this strip.
Ah! Another reason to listen to the OSPodcast. Gotta get to that–it’s just so hard to find time these days. Also, Red is officially the coolest person I know of. I know other people who know math, literature, music, and art, but none of them know martial arts as well.
Nice to see how Kendal fights without his sword, very efficient and methodical takedown of Falst.
Before Lion-boy had the advantage of being more nimble in the treetops and Kendal already tired fighting a chimera to make an escape. Now the gap between them is rather painfully obvious and the option for Falst to cut and run is gone.
So Falst is contained, Alinua and Erin are going to deal with the lacrima, I get the feeling something will disrupt this calm. Dr. Jolon appears and accusations between him and Falst fly? Gleicann appears now that the fighting is over to mediate? Another chimera attacks? I’m hoping for the first, the fight choreography and pace of this page is great but I’m hungry for dialogue.
I don’t think accusations will fly when Jolon appears, he seems to be a bit more laid-back when it comes to things like that, being able to heal people and all that. Jolon seems to just want to talk and sort things out.
It might when it comes to the “Who is making the chimeras?” question. Jolon, Erin and Ali all think it’s Falst, Kendal is unsure and Falst will most likely, in my opinion, deny any involvement. Jolon doesn’t have to be the one throwing accusations, Erin is already primed to do that.
Yeah, exactly! It makes me really wish my BJJ classes were still happening. This isn’t a BJJ move (I think, I’m not very experienced), but still. It’s frustrating when your only sparring partner is your agressive and violent but unskilled younger sister who cries easily and you’re not allowed to wrestle with, even though when you were younger she beat you up all the time.
*sigh* Pandemics really suck. So do sisters. But yes, the martial arts on this page are spectacular and I really want to try that move someday!
Younger sisters suck, but unfortunately, we gotta avoid fighting with them, and pray they dont attack us – because parents never let older siblings justify rettaliation. Hang in there! Someday the pandemic’ll be over and you’ll go back to fighting classes
Sisters and incredibly clingy cats do suck, ESPECIALLY when they’ve been wrecking your sleep for the past MONTH… holy f*ck, I want to move out, but I can’t get a job without risking my life…
That’s not his broken one, in the last page Kendal broke Lion-boi’s right wrist, which he clutches briefly in panel 1, and here he attacks with his left arm.
Okay, if I didn’t know what a sweetheart Kendal actually was, panels three onward would be terrifying. Hand-to-Hand combat with what is basically a Spartan from Halo.
…Huh. Didn’t consider that possibility. Interesting, but potentially unlikely. I feel he has something to explain, and kicking the bucket (or close to it) could get in the way of that.
You know what I find the scariest, how unfazed Kendal looks by this whole thing. Like, up till now we have only ever seen him be happy, huggy and a little bit of sad philosophy. Even fighting he is normaly showing some emotion. With the chimeras at the start he had the time of his life and with the sentinel he was sad about the city but he just looks like he’s done this all before.

Erin should have figured out by now that he can’t beat Kendal in a straight fight. Either he needs to find a way to fight crooked or he needs to try running out of his reach.
Ok, I think he got the point now. Can we please stop?
Bold of you to assume that our friend here got the point XD
I see Kendall follows Beowulf-style logic. dope!
Also Notice how sword is now in the background when Kendal is around Dx
Wait, where’s the sword? I thought it was still in the cave where the lacrima was.
I think they meant the moon of that name.
Oh, right. I can already tell that’s going to confuse me in future when people talk about moons and I go: “wHErE’S thE SHielD?”
I love symbolism
To quote Red, sYMMMMMbolism (cue rainbow special effects)
Ow… poor falst
So many things to say!

“I wonder if Red knows any martial arts.”
You would know if you listened to the Overly Sarcastic Podcast.

Well…
1) Red mentioned on one of the OSPodcasts that she does have martial arts training, but only the basics iirc.
2) I think she’s calling for Erin because he’s the most book-smart of the squad and probably knows how to safely dispose of a lacrima.
Also IIRC Blue is pretty good at fencing, so they should know what they are tal… emh, drawing about.
Alinua is talented but untrained, Erin is a scholar so it’s a pretty good idea to give him the lacrima to check if it’s safe to dismantle.
Kendal is just “I’m so sick of this. Let’s just get this over with and move on.”

Yeah, Kendal is done with this. WHICH MEANS IT’S PRIME TIME FOR DR. JOLON TO SHOW UP AND MISINTERPRET THE SITUATION!
Because miscommunication is the core of the last two chapters… to be honest, I’m getting sick of it
Can we appreciate how Done Kendal looks in the fourth panel
Yes indeed
“John Cena!”
As someone who does martial arts this page is just beautiful!
I can totally see how this move would work.

It’s kinda hard to watch Falst get taken down so effortlessly when he was doing so well before. Especially since u can see his desperation.
Panel six, you can see that Kendal definitely did not just crack Falst’s knuckles.
He attacked with his right hand before, the one we see now was supposed to be in good shape Dx
Falst is going to find it difficult to eat or pick his nose after this.
I’m not sure the guy with claw\hand things ever had an easy time picking his nose
I guess I’ll be the one to say it: THOSE MOTION LINES COILING AROUND FALST’S ARM AS KENDAL LOCKS IT ARE JUST *chef’s kiss*
I absolutely adore Kendal
Bold move to attack him with your broken wrist

Except they also were LITERALLY a god NINE DAYS ago
This reminds me of those cool anime scenes where they just constantly flash between two POVs.
I forgot our floofy protagonist is also a insanely good fighter. Falst is gonna be bruised.
Kendal you are very badass, but stop hurting him! I want him to be your new bestie XD
Wait!! Are you implying this is no way of becoming besties??
I’m calling it now, the lacrima is gonna break and Doctor Jolon’s gonna get mutated into a horrible monster
…Huh. Didn’t consider that possibility. Interesting, but potentially unlikely. I feel he has something to explain, and kicking the bucket (or close to it) could get in the way of that.

That wasn’t Kendal fighting The Collector and her chimeras, that was Vash. I don’t think Kendal has ever enjoyed fighting.
Hey, guys. Do you remember that Falst left a curse on the lacrima? If not, then here’s a fun little reminder.
and his name is JOHN CENA-
TL;DR: Man of Coprse uses kung fu! It is very effective!
Erin should have figured out by now that he can’t beat Kendal in a straight fight. Either he needs to find a way to fight crooked or he needs to try running out of his reach.
Kendal finally realized that breaking bones is more efficient than dialogue.
I knew he would come around. They all do.
YIKES, he do be badass tho.

If they won’t listen, first break one of their bones, then another. They’ll listen eventually.
